Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 In the radio broadcast, they said that Alou started "swinging a bat". Whatever that means.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I bet nobody ever borrows Alou's bats.

Guest attgig Guests Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I was wondering when alou would be back. with Pagan batting the way he is, I don't feel like we need him back in a hurry.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Keep in mind that the offense we're going ga-ga over (and rightfully so) from Pagan over an 11 game stretch is virtually identical to what Alou kept up for more than two months last year (Aug & Sept). When Alou is ready he's going to be activated and he's going to play. They'll need to find time for Pagan around that.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Alou may be sooner rather than later. He's looking to be playing rehab games in St. Lucie this week.

Guest Grote15 Guests Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I'm pretty comfortable with Alou, Pagan, and Endy as injuries and circumstances dictate.I was kinda surprised the Cubs let Pagan go being he had quite a few AB's last season and filled in well.Might be a chance to sort of rotate the OF
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 They didn't let him go. We traded for him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I'm not suggesting putting Pagan in mothballs. The guy whose roster spot is in jeopardy when Alou returns is most logically Clark. But not only could he probably refuse any demotion but he'd have next to no trade value. Endy, on the other hand, might fetch something if there's a team out there in need of some true ball-hawk of a CFer and I might look to move him if a match could be found. Pagan's emergence has made him more redendant than anyone.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 I'm not saying that to trade Endy would be unthinkable, but I think I'd still rather have him than Brady Clark.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 According to the NY Post, Pedro is pushed back to mid-May, possibly June.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 ="Benjamin Grimm"]I'm not saying that to trade Endy would be unthinkable, but I think I'd still rather have him than Brady Clark.Well, certainly, but the assertion of trading him would mean that you'd get Brady Clark, plus some fine young athlete or two in return.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 you only need two of pagan, chavez, and clark. if you can really get a useful part for one of them (which i doubt) do it.

Now who knows? Here is part of espn.com story:Pedro Martinez reportedly won't be back anytime soon to wake up the lethargic-looking New York Mets.General manager Omar Minaya told the New York Post for Tuesday's editions that the team doesn't expect the injured Martinez to return to the mound for the Mets until the middle of May or possibly June."We're definitely going to be more conservative with him," Minaya told the Post. "With hamstrings, you just never know. We've got to be careful." Martinez suffered a left hamstring strain in his first start of the season. It was diagnosed as a mild hamstring strain and at the time, he was expected to miss four to six weeks.Minaya told the Post that the Mets' doctors have ruled out Martinez's return before the six-week mark of his recovery.
