TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Hockey style catcher's masks are dorky.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 We have a foot of snow here in Grand Rapids, and it has been around 0 degrees for a chunk of the last week. But after seeing that photo of Schneider, the snow doesn't seem as deep and the wind doesn't blow as cold.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 If you were a catcher what would you use, the old-style catcher's mask or the newer hockey-style helmet? In the immortal words of the late Spiro Agnew: No Lo ContendreP.S. I think the helmet scheme is kinda cool. It looks like the helmet under the mask (with a bit of flourish added) - just all in one piece.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 metirish wrote:.....way too much blue in that picture....really I dont like that helmet and hope it's only for practice.I'm guessing that is his ST helmet to match the BP/ST blue jerseys. Once the season starts he'll probably have 2 or 3 to match each ensemble. Yes, even a black one.I would go old style mask with my ballcap turned backwards.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Old style, yeah!I'd wear my colloar up like eighties teen sensation Nap LaJoie. If I was in the outfield, I wouldn't go with one of those big sissy gloves with two sqaure feet of webbing. No sir, I'd be like Rebel Oakes, and wear a glove possibly smaller than my hand, forcing me to catch all flies in my palm.Mostly, if I was playing third, I'd want to equip myself in nothing but an an old oven mitt. If it was good enough for John McGraw, it's good enough for me.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 I'd be like Jason Phillips and wear an old-style mask, but over a forward-facing batting helmet. If I may insert a blatant commercial message, the sidebar on catching equipment in new book ( entirely the work of my co-writer btw) is prolly my favorite part of the whole book.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 "Hey, Brian...that goalie mask looks dorky. Joe Mauer would never wear that."
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Now that shirt I like.....

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 He should customize his mask with an orange dot and red apple to really irk the CPF old-liners.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I doubt the black is going away any time soon looks like Willie has gained a few pounds.A disturbing sequence here.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The double (and occasionally triple) insigniae, with one on top of the other, is wrong. It's one more byproduct of the black.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I agree. The N and the Y should be cojoined. If there's an outline, it should outline both letters as if they were one; the letters shouldn't be outlined individually.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 ="seawolf17"]="metirish"]I swear I thought that was Art Howe on the far right. I don't know who it is, but he gave me the heebie-jeebies.I think that's the esteemed (esteemed by Farmer Ted and myself, at any rate) Guy Conti. I'm guessing that's Schneider on the left and obviously Rick Peterson and his mullet second from the right having his fist metaphor ignored by Santana. What I kind of like during the P&C period, as position players come straggling in, is the lack of dictatorial sartorial control in the workout gear. We're looking at three different hats and four different tops there.

Did you know that Guy Conti was the pitching coach for the Great Falls (MT) Dodger Rookie League Team that Pedro pitched for? Conti and his wife were good friends to Pedro and helped him learn English by teaching him one new word a day. Pedro referred to Conti as "my white Daddy."

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Not only is Peterson being ignored, but Conti thinks it's hilarious.I'm sure Johan eventually got around to pounding Peterson's rock. It's all good.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Pedro has more daddies?
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Big forearms for a teenager, aren't they?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 As they say he's built like a brick shithouse.
