TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 While we're waiting for any news...here is the monthly trivia question for February from the Mets calendar hanging in my office:No Mets player won the Rookie of the Year Award during the 1990's, but three of the 10 winners were later traded to the Mets. Who were they?No peeking.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Piazza, Nomo, and some other Dodger.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Piazza and Nomo are correct. One more needed.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I peeked and the question is wrong two different ways.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 Beltran did win an AL ROY in the 90's, but he was acquired by the Mets via free agency. The question isn't terribly specific, but it is referring to NL ROY winners. The 3rd player was traded to the Mets.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Beltran and Alomar signed as free agents rather than being traded. But if its only NL ROYs then the question is fine.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Edit: As soupy said the question is fine b/c Beltran and Alomar weren't traded to the Mets.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 The third ROY was actually traded to the Mets and then traded away that same winter, without ever playing a game in a Mets uniform.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Author Posted February 1, 2008 David Justice - 1990 NL ROY award winner and a Met for 7 days in December of 2001:December 7, 2001: Traded by the New York Yankees to the New York Mets for Robin Ventura. December 14, 2001: Traded by the New York Mets to the Oakland Athletics for Mark Guthrie and Tyler Yates.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 It's amazing how many ROY's the 90's Dodgers had. And how few postseason appearances they have to show for it.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Dave Justice won the ROY award?!?
