G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 This from the official mets.com release on the Shea commemorative patch to be worn on home uniforms next year:Past commemorative patches worn by the Mets include...America's Bicentennial (1976)...Nitpick alert: That patch wasn't worn for the Bicentennial. It celebrated the National League Centennial. The patch itself made that quite clear:http://www.secondchancestadium.com/catalog/NL%20CENTENNIAL%20RUG%20880.JPGPerhaps it was Mr. Met's jaunty appearance on the cover of the '76 Yearbook in his tri-corner cap, rushing to take on the Redcoats (or at least Redbirds), that perpetuates this misconception. Or perhaps they lifted the fact from the excellent uniform article on UMDB where it is also identified as a Bicentennial patch.I find it logical if odd that the Shea patch will only be worn at Shea and not on the road in 2008.You can all go back to having lives now. Let me know what it's like to have one.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I like that Shea logo. If they put it on a coffee mug, I just might buy one.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I am 110% certain that you will be able to purchase a mug with the logo on it.I mean c'mon, there's money to be made!Nice logo though. I'm digging 'Split Shea'.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 That's hardly nitpicking Greg, that's a big difference in celebration right there .I like the patch.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 More evidence that the interns run the show. I agree -- quality patch.

Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 The Pirates, Padres, and Phillies ought to return to those 1976 logos. While they are at it, the Padres should return to that color scheme as well (and the Rays should not have changed theirs).
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 i like the current Pirates logo better than this one. The old Padres logo is great, it just needs to be modernized/computerized (sharper colors etc) a little.I like the old Reds' logo with what looks like Mr. Met's cousin
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Patch will be a nice addition to the collectionI wonder how much the 64-65 Worlds Fair patch goes for, I've yet to really see them on the market.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 I think the patch was inspired by our logo.
