Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Glavine signs for 1 year, $8 million.http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-braves-glavine&prov=ap&type=lgns
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Assuming this is accurate, the timing of the deal is good as it means the Mets can safely offer arbitration when the deadline comes around and snag draft picks out of the deal. Braves pick is #18 overall too which is almost the best pick one can pick up.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 We're going to sorely miss those 200 innings next year. Can't wait to see who the 2008 Brian Lawrence/Jose Lima is going to be. Cuz right now it seems like he's going to get a lot of starts.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 OM can sign Livan Hernandez who pitches 200 innings without a problem. Unlike Glavine, Livan will be happy to be a Met because his half-brother is on the team. Unlike Glavine, Livan's heart will reside, at least for '08, in Flushing, not in Atlanta. I also have confidence that Livan will do better than to give up 7 runs in one-third of an inning in an important game.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Livan Hernandez's rubber arm would be nice. But that heart and happiness stuff is overrated.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Glavine's whole brother was a Met.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Won't be missing those final 10.1 innings.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 So the Braves give their division rival a first round pick for one year of a guy well into his forties who had a 4.45 ERA in a pitchers' park in the NL, and who just changed the most appropriate word to describe complete and abject failure in a critical baseball game from "Buckneresque" to "Glavinesque." Um, sure, thanks. May we rip off many teams like that this offseason.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 See ya, sucka. Looking forward to lighting him up four or five times this year. How great is this? Brad Lidge and Tom Glavine are the two key pitchers added to our two biggest rivals! Nice.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I don't know how to insert a chart the fancy way that some of you do. I pulled the numbers for the last 3 seasons. I was surprised that Livan is 32 years old (really?). Glavine has indeed been better than Livan over the past 3 seasons. Maybe there are better alternatives out there than Livan. All I know is that a) he wants to play at Shea he's a FA so no trade has to be made and c) he doesn't have a home in Atlanta.Year Ag Tm W L G GS CG SHO GF IP H R ER HR BB SO HBP WP BFP IBB BK ERA *lgERA *ERA+ WHIPLivan2005 30 WSN 15 10 35 35 2 0 0 246.3 268 116 109 25 84 147 13 3 1065 14 2 3.98 4.06 102 1.429 2006 31 TOT 13 13 34 34 0 0 0 216.0 246 125 116 29 78 128 4 1 959 6 0 4.83 4.41 91 1.5002007 32 ARI 11 11 33 33 1 0 0 204.3 247 116 112 34 79 90 6 3 913 1 2 4.93 4.70 95 1.595Glavine2005 39 NYM 13 13 33 33 2 1 0 211.3 227 88 83 12 61 105 3 1 901 5 0 3.53 4.10 116 1.3632006 40 NYM 15 7 32 32 0 0 0 198.0 202 94 84 22 62 131 6 1 842 7 0 3.82 4.36 114 1.3332007 41 NYM 13 8 34 34 1 1 0 200.3 219 102 99 23 64 89 4 2 855 2 0 4.45 4.26 96 1.413
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I like to watch Livan pitch but would prefer not for our team.As for Glavine, scram. See your ass at Shea next year. Bring your earplugs.

Guest Iubitul Guests Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 In other news, MLB has announced the renewed expansion of the strike zone by 5 inches toward first base....

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 ^ Soupy dissing Tom Glavine while being Tom Glavine^^^^^^
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I'm the mad poster this week because I can't stand being Tom Glavine.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 And just think, after we incorporate our 2007 rankings into the existing list and then recalculate the whole thing, Glavine will move up a handful of spots (looks like to around 29th) meaning that you'll eventually get to be him again!!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Good riddance.I will remember him as the guy who choked away September 2007 along with half his teammates. Buh-bye Tom.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I just hope that when he pitches against the Mets that treat him like the Braves did when he was pitching for the Mets.Because if they don't I swear I'll be pulling my hair completely out of my head.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Just keep him below #29 and we'll be okay.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 does anyone honestly believe than Livan is only 32? I'd start the bidding at 35...
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Somehow lots of WFAN callers have gotten access to CPF accounts and are posting in this thread.

I don't want to waste time on mike and the idiot, i tried calling them once to rebuke their idiotic assertion that Carlos Delgado (and by extention all puerto ricans) is not a citizen, but i didn't get through.
