Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Awesome. Let's see him try to move Jeter from SS.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Mattingly must feel like the anointed son getting looked over , maybe Steinbrenner will over rule Cashman anc cause real chaos.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Mattingly: 'Extremely disappointed ... will not accept a position w/the Yanx during 2008 ... will take time to consider future options'Might he wind up as a Dodger coach if Torre winds up there (and where his son is a minor leguer)?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Wasn't he too high-strung for the Marlins? This could be fun.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 He wasn't high strung, unless by high strung, you mean "objected vociferously to interference by meddling bosses."Which doesn't mean this won't be fun.

Cashman and Girardi have a relationship of course.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 imo Girardi was the best choice (he has good experience and i dont think he's stuck in the " 'old school' i don't know what a statistic is" mentality.) he also is the potentially more fun choice for non-yankee fans because unlike mattingly i dont think he's going to be the yankee yes-man, maybe he can even have some media wars with players and stuff
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 ="metirish"] Cashman and Girardi have a relationship of course.WHat?!?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 I saw a photo of Joe Girardi in the paper today, and I swear, at first glance I thought it was a computer-hybrid mixing the faces of Barak Obama and Wesley Clark.I thought it was an illustration for some goofy article suggesting they'd make a Dream Team as running mates in 2008.

Cashman and Girardi have a relationship of course. The other problem is that Girardi and Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria had a falling out when Loria was sitting behind the plate at a game, riding the umpire hard, and Girardi asked him to cut it out. Loria didn't like getting shown up, headed for the clubhouse, ripped Girardi after the game. Girardi didn't like getting shown up in front of the team any more than Loria did, tempers flared in 90-minute screaming match. This was early August. Reportedly, the Florida clubhouse staff was setting up for hastily called press conference --- presumably to announce Girardi's dismissal or resignation --- but it was called off as cooler heads prevailed. Nonetheless, Girardi was a dead man walking from that point on.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 3-Years , $7.5M is the deal for Girardi.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I finally watched Torre's Monday appearance on Letterman. His best line was about how, after the "divorce," he and the Yankees have to decide who gets custody of Billy Crystal.(I'd say that whoever the winner is is actually the loser.)
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
