The title for the fourth Indiana Jones movie has just been announced: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". It opens in theaters on May 22, 2008.

i know i'm the predictor of doom and gloom for sequels so here i go again: this movie wont live up to its predecessors and the enormous hype it will receive, people will be leaving the theaters as disappointed as they were after Star Trek V.

Having Spielberg and Harrison Ford involved gives me hope for this one. I hope they will be enough to counteract the Lucas factor.

her career was great early, but fell off rapidly and deeply. In the 7-year period from 1978 - 1984, she had major roles in 6 excellent films:

ANIMAL HOUSE (78)
THE WANDERERS (79)
SMALL CIRCLE OF FRIENDS (80)
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (81)
SHOOT THE MOON (82)
STARMAN (84)

And then.... nothing good for nearly 10 years, until her supporting role in the excellent baseball movie, THE SANDLOT (93). Since then, nothing of interest. She still works, but not in things that are either successful or even visible.

She was never a great actress, but she definitely had a certain ... something. After establishing herself as a grownup romantic lead in the excellent STARMAN, she made some bad career choices. Then, she had to wait until she aged into "mom" roles.

She should have had a better manager, like "E".

Some people liked A PERFECT STORM, the year before.

Since then, yes, nothing.

I once saw her walking down 16th Street. A great moment.

This new movie has 14 syllables in the title. A mouthful.

So I take it this movie will be set some time in the 1950's when Indiana Jones is approximately the same age that Harrison Ford is now?

Not that Ford/Jones have ever had a 1-to-1 age matchup since that would make Indiana Jones 42 in 1935, 39 in 1936, and 47 in 1938.

I'll call the Sandlot less than excellent, and her role kinda odd, married to the visibly younger Denis Leary.

At 56, why not let her chase Indy around? Better than sticking him with Julia Stiles or Thora Birch some shit.

The Soviets have replaced the Nazis as the bad guys in this movie. Some tidbits that I know:

There is a motorcycle chase through 1950's New Haven.
There may be Russian tanks in the movie.
Part of the movie takes place in Mexico/Central America.
Cate Blanchett and John Hurt are also in the movie.
Both sides in the Cold War are after Indiana Jones' expertise regarding a really big archaeological find.

Speaking of Karen Allen, I caught a radio interview with Mark Metcalf (Neidermeyer in Animal House) last week. He was on one of those syndicated morning shows. While filming Animal House, all the guys, from Belushi down to the piss boys, were trying to get with Allen but she wouldn't have any part of it. Then Donald Sutherland flies up to Oregon for the filming, stays there less than 36 hours for his parts, and gets the girl.

Other tid bits from Animal House, other than Sutherland banging Allen:

Neidermeyer's horse was a "Silver." It was one of a few Clayton Moore (The Lone Ranger) would ride on for public appearances (i.e., parades, etc.)

The ROTC helmet worn by Metcalf during Animal House was an actual helmet worn by George C. Scott in Patton.

I thought that Karen Allen was living with Stephen Bishop ("On and On") at the time, which is why he got the bit part in the movie as the guy singing on the stairs during the toga party.

Saw this yesterday-- the best part for me was the nostalgia...definitely a pale comparison to its predecessors, but there were worse ways to spend two hours.

But Star Trek VI was great!

I'm glad that your prediction came out wrong. I liked the movie. And it really didn't get that much hype. Certainly nothing compared to Spiderman II or the Star Wars prequels.
