Eliminated

The Devil Rays have won 9 out of 12 after today's thumping of the Yanks and get rewarded by being officially eliminated from the AL East divisional race. Their elimination number for the wildcard is 6.

Other low divisional elimination numbers: Baltimore with 5 and the White Sox with 6.

The latter would have a much better chance of happening if;

a) the Mariners didn't pick now to go into a NINE GAME LOSING STREAK

and/or

B) the Tigers didn't insist on BLOWING SEVEN RUN LEADS like they did today.

Boston beat Baltimore last night knocking them out of contention for the division. The AL East is now literally a 3 team race...even though the O's and the Rays have been realistically out of it for months.

A White Sox loss to Minnesota at home and/or a Cleveland win at Anaheim tonight will eliminate Chicago from the AL Central.

The way I look at it, a team isn't really eliminated until they're also knocked out of the wild card race.

At the moment, Tampa Bay, with 82 losses, is the only team guaranteed to have a losing season. (The White Sox have 81 losses; they're the only other team guaranteed to not have a winning season.)

The Devil Rays are 20 games behind with 22 to play. White Sox are 19 out, also with 22 to play.

Technically, no, but because all of the teams in front of them have to play each other, practically, they're eliminated, even if the simple magic number doesn't work that way.

White Sox eliminated from AL Central contention on Saturday and will be eliminated from the wildcard with a loss and a Yankee win on Sunday.

Tampa Bay eliminated from the wildcard on Saturday.

A Mets win and a Marlin loss on Sunday eliminates Florida from winning the NL East.

Cleveland's win Sunday night over the Angels eliminates Kansas City from the AL Central race.

The White Sox's loss earlier in the day excludes them from any playoff consideration in 2007.

Baltimore and KC sit with wildcard elimination numbers of 1 and 2 respectively, but will live to fight until at least Tuesday because of the short schedule on Monday.

White Sox and Astros are only a game out of the Worst Team of the Year Standings.

Not a bad showing for your 2005 World Series Finalists.

I'm calling the Marlins in the wildcard race. They technically have a magic number of 3, but due to the remaining schedules of the Rockies, Padres and Dodgers, there is no possible scenario of outcomes where they can win.

Selig has already made 150 combinations of hotel reservations, remember thats the reason we can't just given homefield to the better team.

San Francisco has been eliminated in the NL West.

The Rangers, Athletics, and Blue Jays all face elimination from their division races tonight.

It definitely demonstrates how weak the NL Central division is when teams are mathematically eliminated from the Wild Card race, but still have a shot at winning the divisional crown.

Teams are dropping like flies. Houston, Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Oakland were completely eliminated last night.

Toronto and Cincy could be wiped out tonight.

The Blue Jays have flown south for the winter. Only 6 teams still alive in the AL...and it's only a matter of time for Seattle and Detroit.

So we're down to only 88 possible World Series matchups.

The Yankees look to be the only AL team from last year's postseason to return this year.

If the Mets make it to the World Series, they'll either get a repeat opponent in the Red Sox or Yankees, or we'll see a brand new opponent in the Indians or Angels.

(I perfer Cleveland.)
