Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Clemens only gave up 2 runs - both on solo HRs - but still somehow managed to throw nearly 100 pitches despite only going 4.1 IPs. That seems like it's going to be his major problem this year; not that he can't go 100+ pitches but that he's going to get there and the game's still only going to be half over.- Couple more hits from Matsui- Jeter oddly thrown out on the basepaths twice

Didn't end well at all.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 ]Jeter oddly thrown out on the basepaths twiceThe play in the 6th inning -- Jeter was dumbly thrown out trying to advance 2nd to 3rd on a grounder to SS -- elicited surprising candidness from a disgusted John Sterling: "That wasn't good baseball, it wasn't bad baseball, it was terrible baseball." He just went on and on! Susan tried to join him but would only engage in bashing of Abreu for having failed to get Jeets to 3rd the batter before.Saidf it before, the Rockies are pretty good. Tulowitzski, if he hits at all (and he's starting to, HR today) is going to be a very nice player.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Irony here is that the Rockies specifically requested a visit from the Yankees this year on their schedule.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 - Rox now own MLB's best record over the last few weeks- Clemens actually gave up 3 runs, not 2 like I said earlier. He also became an answer to a trivia question when he singled after failing to get down a bunt: Oldest Yanqui ever to get a base-hit

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Well, duh, although that boat's long since sailed, with interleague play having been around 10 years or so. The Rockies of couse wanted the Skanks in town for attendance purposes (they sold out an afternoon game today) but IIRC the Pirates were pissed, as they (along with the Astros) have never had the Yankees at home, while this was Colorado's 2nd time getting them.Look for the Mets to get either the Rangers or White Sox at Shea next year. Possibly both, depending on if we get the 6th interleague series or not (we've only had 5 the past 3 years).
Guest iramets Guests Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 During last week’s Subway Series, I watched one game on channel 9 (Clemens’ game, which why I got so pissed off at Leiter’s inane commentary) and was further annoyed by their trivia question, which was: How many former Yankee players are now managing MLB teams? The answer was six, and Sterling and Susan were oohing and ahhing about the incredibility of so much Yankee influence in the major leagues, etc. bbbyyy.Same question, for the Mets? Also six (Torre, Gardy, Gibbons, Hurdle, Randolph and Bochy). Is this a lot? A little? Who knows? People ask why someone would hate Yankee fans so much, and this is my answer: because they boast of every fucking thing the Yankees have ever accomplished, whether or not anyone else has accomplished it, and whether or not it’s an extraordinary achievement, or even worth accomplishing. They’re the pinnacle of boasting—to be a Yankee fan, you must suffer from a terminal case of pride, which prevents you from viewing yourself as equal to—or even belonging to the same race as—every fucking other person on the face of the earth.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Everything the Mets accomplish under Randolph proves how superior the Yankees are.

Well put, Ira.FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised if there's another team that can claim more than six managers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 ]because they boast of every fucking thing the Yankees have ever accomplished, whether or not anyone else has accomplished it, and whether or not it’s an extraordinary achievement, or even worth accomplishing. The reason being that MFY fans are generally unaware of what else goes on with other teams since they view those teams as sort of satellite businesses (Michael Kay refers to Yankee stadium as "the home office for Major League Baseball") who only purposes are to provide sacraficial opponents for the chosen team and occasionally develop prospects for the Yanx to then acquire through one-sided trades or free agency.Just as an example of the above, I remember a bunch of years back when the Yanx beat Oakland with back to back HRs in the 9th. Isringhausen was their closer trying to protect a 1-0 shutout until David Justice hit the 1st pitch of the inning over the fence, then Bernie hit the 2nd for a dramatic win.So that game prompts a WFAN listener to call in the next day to crow about the win and declare it to be an example of "yankee magic" and something "you won't see in Queens" or anywhere else. The kicker to the whole deal was that this all occured just a few days after that Met 8-run 8th inning against Atlanta culminating in the Piazza PH-HR. The host - Russo to his ever-loving credit - at least had the recall to bring that game to the caller's attention as a way of showing that dramatic wins aren't neccesarily the sole property of pinstripers from the Bronx. The caller had no knowleadge of the Met comeback, a game that had happened in his very city only days earlier.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 A bit shocked but not surprised to read that Clemens pitched out of the pen yesterday.......SO Durham, walked Bonds, gave up a single to Klesko sending Bonds to third who then scored on a sac-fly by Nate Schierholtz ,Feliz then flied to center......not very steller.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Well, that's what happens when Igawa doesn't make it out of the 5th on Friday (the game they won), then have to go 13 innings on Saturday, and then have Mussina last only 5 on Sunday. They actually had Clemens warming up on Saturday but chose not to bring him in, before using him for the one inning on Sunday.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Igawa barely hung onto a 5-0 lead Friday. Not bad for a $46 million minor leaguer.

Tiger Woods took top honors.BALTIMORE -- Derek Jeter, who turned 33 Tuesday, was named the second most popular athlete in America in a survey conducted by the Harris Poll organization.Jeter is behind only Tiger Woods on the Top 10 list, which Harris puts out annually for no discernible reason. Alex Rodriguez did not make the list, nor did any other baseball player. Not surprisingly, the news of his standing in the hearts and minds of Americans -- or at least the 2,372 adults nationwide who were polled from June 5-11 -- did not seem to complete Jeter's life."Really, honestly, it's not something you sit down and think about," Jeter said before the Yankees played the Orioles at Camden Yards. Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Proctor also fielded a popped bunt in that 9th inning (nice diving catch) but was too intent on showing the glove to realize that he had an easy DP if he looked to 2nd.That kept runners on 1st & 2nd and then the two walks followed.(I'll take my good news where I can find it tonight)
