Mets played a messy game in the field and still managed to win this one.
Tuff break for Glavine with the no decision.
He pitched better than the box score will reflect.

I didn't get the Cubbie strategy with all the intentional and semi-intentional walks.
The pitcher's gotta go after Endy there. Then, once losing him, you can kind of understand being careful with Carlos I because you'd rather face Carlos II, but the one downside there is the one that actually happened.

Lou - never patient with hurlers to begine with, has gotta be steaming at his staff tonight. Can't hold a 4-0 lead, then 3 walks to lose it.



Heilman "vultures" himself a nice 1-pitch win.

No sign of Cliff except for a few innings on the top step of the dugout. Hopefully he's in the lineup tomorrow to receive some well-deserved love from the fans.

Fans booed when Heilman was announced into the game in the 9th. Not everybody, but a sizeable chunk. Very disappointing.

Glad we pulled it out because I thought Willie shoulda pinch hit for Glavine in the bottom of the 5th (he was at 96 pitches) when he was due to lead off.

With Ben Johnson apparently back, I wonder how much longer we can tolerate David Newhan. How long did the HR buy him? A week? Two?

Strange tho that he left Howry and Eyre in the pen -- never warmed 'em up as far as I could tell -- when he had Chavez and Delgado to retire. I guess, with 2 out, you just try and get the batter. I would anyway.

Key pitch in the sequence with Endy was the PO. I hate when announcers say this but this was one time where a 2-out single by Reyes ruined their whole night.

Sat next to a geeky Cub couple and I got into a bit of a foul mood after the first couple of innings. I soon became annoying enough so that she and he switched places.

I'm now 2-0 at Shea this year, both walkoffs.

He's hardly been great this year, but had a dozen or so scoreless IPs before that (meaningless as it turned out) HR in game 1 against the Brews. I guess only perfection is acceptable to some.

I read in the paper this morning that Lou was barking about his pen doing a bad job. I think that's pretty lame considering he was the one that pulled his starter and went to them so early. Marquis had a lot left in the tank, and of the two baserunners, one of them was that fly ball that Soriano botched. I also disagree with the intentional walk to Beltran.

The more I see of Lou, the more I'm glad he's not managing this team.

Yet, you see that article (I'm assuming you mean Filip Bondy in the Snooze) masterbating furiously over his fantasy of Piniella managing the MFYs and bringing the kind of "manic passion," to mismangement of the bullpen instead of Torre's typical nonchalance when he screws up.

I will say I couldn't kill Piniella for yanking Marquis necessarily -- he may have been tired or whatever and, I forget the final total, but around half his pitches were balls, accorrding to the screboard, and it seemed only a matter of time before the Mets really started whacking him.

Well, yeah, but that's true of most people. It's rare that anyone is at Shea when the Yankees are at home, because then the Mets are usually on the road.

I think you'd have to do that. You have to credit him for bringing in Cotts, who got Delgado to GIDP.
