Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 ]One thing we have to be careful about is overexposing David, going to him too often, said Dave Howard, the Mets executive vice president for business operations. Not only is he attractive in the business community, but he hardly ever says no. We have to remind ourselves that were a team that has a number of attractive, very marketable, players.http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/01/sports/baseball/01mets.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1No reason why this peice shouldn't address Fecesgate, but encouraging on some levels too.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I think they may have missed the boat on not overexposing Wright.....remeind me about Fecesgate..not ringing a bell right now..

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Wright in his own Sportscenter commercial, not bad either.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 This was the article I shoulda written:http://nymag.com/news/features/30019/]David Wright benefits from a persona that perfectly dovetails with Bloombergian New York City. He is unthreatening, tourist- friendly, a bit corporate, but charming nonetheless.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 ]The good looks, the money, the ultimate bachelor pad: Comparisons with Jeter have become inevitable. Like Jeter, Wright entered the major leagues at 21 and is a pure product of his team: drafted and groomed when he was still a teenager. Growing up, Wright idolized Cal Ripken Jr., but Jeter has become his model for playing in New York. Hes offered me some great advice, says Wright. He just says to remember who you were when you started playing and dont change. It sounds simple, but its not. You wear the uniform, youre under a microscope. He has his social life, but hes also someone kids look up to. Thats a hard balance. Im very conscious of what it means to wear the jersey, but at the same time, Im a 24-year-old who likes to do what any normal 24-year-old does. But Jeter, of course, is known for having dated a variety of high-profile womenMariah Carey, Jessica Albawhereas Wright can sound vaguely monastic on the subject of dating. I dont want to put them in the same category as drugs, but women can be a a distraction, he says. I have to remember, baseball is the reason I have my apartment, baseball is the reason Im on the cover of video gamesbaseball is what I do. Im not saying I dont ever I mean, I go on dates, but Ill just never let something like that become as important as the game. Not right now, at least. How long before the "Wright is Gay" cat calls from jealous Met/Wright haters come out? Not that there is anything wrong with that (both gay and not wanting to deal with women at this stage of his career/life) but if more crap like that gets out, (especially his GQ photo shoot) you just know some serious and probably slanderous jeers will be falling from stands all over baseball.Kind of also proves my point that Wright is becoming more of a Jeter like personae than Cal Ripken. Ripken was wholesome, and "perfect" as well, but Ripken was a family guy as well, I can't pinpoint the date, but he met his future wife around 1984 or so; and I'm pretty sure no Oriole/Ripken hater ever hurled jeers questioning Cal's sexual preference. Cal always seemed like a guy a Johnny Lunchbucket would want to hang out with at a local tavern, a guy like Jeter, or what it seems Wright is trying to be would most likely rather be seen at the 40/40 with other famous people
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Steve, you know when Ripken met his missus?.......that's kinda gay.....
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 metirish wrote:Steve, you know when Ripken met his missus?.......that's kinda gay.....Hey know, just did a little internet search on Cal, came up with an article from 1995 which said they met 11 years prior. You know, I know you're joking, but in the age of the internet, its not as creepy or strange to pull info like that. I'll tell you something that is a bit creepy. Former Post writer/ESPN radio host Tom Keegan remembers exactly what he was doing the day Jose Reyes was born, it was Keegan's wedding day! No clue if he ever told Reyes that, but he brought up that fact every now and then on his radio program.

Guest cooby Guests Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 I know more than a couple of 24 year old men, and none of them think women are a "distraction"Not a good thing to say, kiddo
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2007 Posted April 2, 2007 Also in that New York Magazine article: Jay Horowitz taking the blame for the Dr. Jaerock Lee episode.
Guest Kid Carsey Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I dunno, I find some of this trying to find labels for Wright a little disturbingon some level. I don't care if he doesn't want to be out clubbing with plasticbimbos like some other high profile jocks, I wouldn't be either. You get acouple of message boards picking up on this and few more magazine articleswritten with just the wrong slant and next thing he'll be sighted with a gayweather man and have to give a press conference and goes into a 3-86 slumpand getting booed off the field and looking to high tail it out of Dodge. He's the anti-Jeter, ya know that guy we've all been making fun of for howmany years? Leave the kid alone, we got a freakin' pennant to win.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I like how Steve is decrying the "Wright is gay" crowd when so far he's the only one who's ever mentioned such a thing.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I can barely remember being 24. Besides, I was already married by then.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I'm 42 and women have been distracting me for the vast majority of my life. You go David.
Guest cooby Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Well the thing is, he makes it sound like a bad distraction
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Which doesn't mean he's gay, it means his focus is more on baseball than it is on girls. If his focus was more on BOYS than on girls, or more on SHOES than on girls, then yes, that would be gay.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 David is not interested in scoring with girls right now,,just in baseball.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 He's certainly in a position to have as much sex as he wants, which is something any 24-year-old would envy. (And so would a lot of 40-somethings as well.)But on the other hand, it's got to be tough finding a "soul mate" once you've become wealthy. Unless he hooks up with an heiress or something like that (and Paris Hilton had better stay away from him!!!) he can never really be sure she loves him or his fame and money.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 And that's why he should go gay and move in with Edgy.
Guest cooby Guests Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I think Paris Hilton would be perfect for him!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 I think the resulting STDs would make it a bad deal for him. Paris' sister is hotter and gets in much less trouble.
