Unfortunately no, it was more matter of fact but you could tell that Francesa felt pretty stupid for not realizing.

Well, a single moment of reflection is a start.

"You know, they are off to a nice start, 24-10, but this isn't the National League Central. This is Shea Stadium"-Ron Darling during the Mets 4th inning barrage

After the game Thursday Giambi took his razor to his days old stubble and shaved it,though he didn't shave his stache,he went with the look that he had last summer when the yanks were hot....

]

“I’ve got to get us hot,” Giambi said. “I can’t go as far as shaving my head, like the Mets.”

"David Wright may have just hit the first home-run in Citi-Field history" -- Howie Rose following Wright's first HR on Saturday which landed near the construction.

Martinez noticed that many of the Mets had very little hair, the result of a widespread shaving spree.

"I see a lot of shaved heads," he joked to a teammate. "I'm glad I'm away from here."

"Teams go through it. Look across town," David Wright said, referring to the Yankees' injuries and struggles. "Good teams have to persevere. We've got the depth. We've got guys who would play every day on other teams. They have to step up, and the guys who are already in there are going to have to take some of that burden, step up our game."

What teams would they be starting on,curious that's all.

I think he means Chavez and Easley, who have been starting due to injury, and are better than the opening-day starter on some teams.

Among remaining Met reserves, the only one you can make that claim about, I think is Castro, who is certainly better than a handful of Brian Schneiders out there.

Zephyrs. Okay, possibly the Royals, Nationals, or DRays.

The problems with the offense didn't arise when Easley had to step in for Valentin or even when Endy filled in for Alou, but once Green went down as well there wasn't an adequate replacement to fill the void. The problem isn't as much the quality of the line up when Easley and Chavez have to assume starting roles, but the depth on the bench. The quality of bats available on the bench is greatly diminished when your best reserves must assume regular duty.

So, right now, Im a gambler, Im a racist and I like 18year-old girls, thats the perception of me in New York right now about me."

Ah, sing it.

I'm a racist, I'm a gambler, I'm a long way from home

And if you don't like me, then leave me alone

I'll date who I want to, if she's left junior high

And if the papers don't kill me, I'll live 'til I die

Maine on why he ran on the wild pitch.

"I wasn't just going to stand there," Maine said. "They can get some guy of the street to just stand there. But they can't pull a guy off the street to pitch."

Does that make sense to anyone? I'm confused.

Red ass.
Don't forget red ass (though not quite as crimson as Paul O'Neill).

Maybe the best quote off all-time. Shawn Green on getting a new hitting coach (NYTimes 7/15/07):

]A lot of the job is being a rah-rah guy. We all know how to hit or else we wouldnt be here. Sometimes all we want is to be held and told that everythings going to be all right.

"I hope I am the trade that the Mets hope for and I am probably the biggest key," Martinez said. "They know that if I have it, I'm going to be there. ... If I'm healthy, I believe I'm capable of doing anything anyone else can do."

--- Pedro Martinez

"Veteran move. He's wearing the white pants on the last day you can possibly wear them."

--- Paul Lo Duca on Pedro Martinez's sartorial choices (white slacks and
shoes) after his as he addressed the media after his Labor Day return
from a year off rehabbing from injury and surgery.
