Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Sometimes life isn't fair. The Mets were clearly the best team in the NL this season, but anything can happen in a short series. The Mets offense let them down in this NLCS while their decimated starting pitching stepped it up. I'm disappointed, but it's far from the end of the world. Some of you sound like the spoiled Yankee fans that you love to make fun of for their sense of entitlement. A little perspective could do a few here some good.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 I should be at the New York FUCKING TIMES right now, instead I'm pushing 30, I live with my parents and I can't barely pay for accounting courses and I can't spend a few hours a week on a blog so that its been updated once in 12 months
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 True..I guess we won't hear about the 1986 Mets anymore for quite quite sometime...say 20 years.....The better team won...
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I'm a reporter. We're not ALL idiots.Gotta tip my cap to the Cards. I didn't give them a chance to get past the Padres, much less us.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 steve, it sounds like you're imploring the media to treat wright and beltran like they treat arod.might want to better choose your words so that they better reflect your thoughts and intent.and, really. lay a teensy bit off the arod=god bit. sheesh.and i really don't get cleon. the mets all of a sudden suck? c'mon dude. were you even watching this season?

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 this was a great game, and a good end to a great season, no matter the outcome. waah, we didn't win. so? are we suddenly yankee fans all up in flushing that our lives are empty and our team is an abject failure if we don't make it to, and subsequently win, the world series?we can't take any joy in a great season, a great postseason run, great play, great players, and great surprises?it sucks that we fucking lost, yeah. but we fucking got here. take joy in that.and get ready for next year. fuck yeah.

Guest old original jb Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I don't buy all this that the Mets were so much better than the Cards. The Cards had a bad run at the end of the season, but they have a lot of depth up and down the lineup, live arms in the bullpen, and better starting pitching, especially when our #1 and # 3 starters are crippled.I hated to see Cliffie strike out in what could be his last appearance as a Met. Hated to see Beltran leave the bases loaded. But I too must tip my hat to the Cardinals. It's been a wonderful season, but there are no guarantees in baseball.Especially when you wait until the bottom of the ninth to do all your hitting.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Here's a bright side.....I just saved a lot of money on shirts, caps, pennants, sweatshirts, bobbleheads......
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 cleon--i hat you.You make it sooo easy too.Why are you here-why have you ever been here?Go away. That WAS a great game. And that last inning-we had two scenarios i would have paid to see:Cliffy in position for a limp off homer and bases juiced for Beltran.I got to see that--but you cant always get everything you want.Didnt get to see the Mets win and move on.But I hold my head high.Mets are STILL the best and I am soooo proud of what my team showed me this season.
Guest KC Guests Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Too much pissin' and dissin' at the end of this last IGT of the season (evenfor my taste, and I can out piss and diss most of you by a lot). That ninth inning is gonna stick in my craw for a good three weeks:Bottom of the 9thPitching Change: (P) Flores replaced by (P) WainwrightHit: Valentin hits a single to CF. 0 out.Hit: Chavez hits a single to LF. J Valentin to second. 0 out.Offensive Substitution: (P) Heilman replaced by (PH) FloydOut: Floyd strikes out. E Chavez holds on first. J Valentin holds on second. 1 out.Out: Reyes flies out to CF. E Chavez holds on first. J Valentin holds on second. 2 outs.Play: Lo Duca walks. E Chavez to second. Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 STOP.Take a deep breath.Let's get a hold of ourselves right now. A lot of us have jobs or classes in the morning, and we don't want to go to sleep angry in addition to being heartbroken. We get along pretty well here. Let's not ruin that with the aftereffects of an emotional, wrenching loss. We all come together on this forum for good-natured discussion about the Mets and other things. But at the end of the day, we've all got lives to live. Let's keep this in perspective. We've all got family, friends, and obligations. Those are far more important than the outcome of a baseball game. This is devastating, yes. But we shall live to fight another day. In the meantime, we've gotta get our acts together and remind ourselves that this isn't the worst thing that could happen to us. Keep it in perspective.Thank you.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 You're welome. And thank you.
