Milledge, considered the Mets' top position prospect, batted .239 with four homers and 18 RBIs during two stints with New York. He was squeezed out of playing time when the Mets acquired right fielder Shawn Green on Tuesday. He�ll be back on Sept. 1.

good move. there's not enough room on the roster, and he could use hte more consistent playing time. get him all the at bats you can. there's plenty of time to ride the pine in september.

Of greater concern is the glut of pitching has the Mets perhaps with too few bench players --- DiFelice, Franco, Woodward, and Tucker ---- to get their stars adequate rest.

The regulars will only have to "guts it out" for a few more days until the rosters expand. But it does put a crimp in Willie's in-game flexibility until then.

That's true. Six days from now we'll have Milledge back, and maybe even Edgardo Alfonzo to allow for more days off for Wright and Valentin. (I think Wright would benefit from a few "blows" here and there.)

I'm wondering if we'll see Stinnett replace DiFelice any time in the next six days. I imagine he will, but I'm not sure why they made Stinnett go to Norfolk.

Gotay and Anderson Hernandez play where Alfonzo plays and are on the roster.

What'll be interesting is to see if they are able to get both Alfonzo and Stinnett on the roster before September first, and thus make them each post-season options.

Dave Williams is interesting. There's little chance he'll have a role in October, but they don't want to expose his to waivers either, because Bannister could falter and Pedro could come up lame.

They have to let at least one more guy dangle to get both Alfonzo and Stinnett on the roster. I'm counting 39 guys, 43 minus four on the 60-Day. Maybe Steve Schmoll gets exposed. maybe Gotay.

I don't see any reason to add Fonzie to the roster, save nostalgia. And it's not worth exposing a southpaw to waivers just to get a guy one standing O. Encourage him to retire, then bring him back as a "coach" for the last month.

I take that back. I suppose Fonzie might have more value as a PH than Gotay or AHern, but I don't know.

And with a similar sidearm delivery to Bradford. Having two guys like that on the same staff could reduce the effectiveness of both of them, as opposing batters would have additional chances to see that kind of delivery.

Jeez, if you catch the Lastings small q&a on SNY you'd think the Mets killed
his puppy ... dude, you'll be back in ten days ... I'm starting to think he thinks
he's entitled to something he hasn't earned yet. This is a shaping up to be a
championship caliber team (ignoring the smoke and mirrors pitching thing we
got going on) and rook has to be patient and know his place.

I agree.
Its not like he was contributing all that much.
He certainly had the opportunity to win and hold a starting spot.

A small part of me thinks that the Mets are intentionally trying to teach the youngster a lesson.
Prospect or no, the team does not revolve around him.
He's just another bit part-a role player- a rook playing/hoping for a roster slot.
Nothing is a givin at this level.
