metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Well I suppose that's good news...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Think about how stoically Delgado took that HBP even though it was eventually sent him out of the game, and then compare it to when Cliff got a similar beaning a few weeks ago and could be heard all over the stadium even though he wound up staying in the game ... and you get the idea why the the team thinks Cliff is guilty of hamming this sort of thing up a bit.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Of course, Floyd would argue that he got hit much worse than Delgado ("I mean did you see my reaction? It must have been worse") but still managed to tough it out and stay in the game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Say what you will about Floydie, but he hasn't been getting around well in the outfield at all since that ankle sprain.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I wanted to remove the injury-prone tag from his name last year.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Willie on the postgame: Cliff just cramped up a little bit and should be okay for tomorrow.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 ESPN reporting that Cliff aggravated his left Achilles tendon while pursuing Rowand foul ball into the left field corner. It has apparently been bothering him for a while, since he was reportedly held out of the line up in the July 30th game in Atlanta for the same reason.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Willie on M&MD: Pedro to the DL with the hip calf. "Precautionary more than anything," says Willie.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Fuck!Who will pitch in his place?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 My idea----put him on an island and let him rest with his back against a palm tree. Let's give him the September 23rd and 28th games as warm ups for the playoffs.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 So it's the hip, what about the calf muscle?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Crap that's what I meant. Good catch irish.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Bubblewrap for him for the next month and a half.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Willie confirms that they are keeping a close eye on Lastings and looking for other OF'ers.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 It's great that Pedro will rest up but he needs to pitch too though, are we comfortable going in to the postseason with Pedro getting two or three starts after coming back from the DL?.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Tough call, but I'd rather rest him than risk breaking him again. He usually only needs a couple of starts to get on track, no?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 ]Pedro goes on DLBY DAVID LENNONNewsday Staff WriterAugust 16, 2006, 4:04 PM EDTPHILADELPHIA -- The Mets announced today that Pedro Martinez has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a minor right calf strain suffered in Monday's 13-0 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The team has recalled reliever Heath Bell from Triple-A Norfolk to take Martinez's roster spot. The Mets have not selected a replacement for Martinez's next start, but one possibility is lefthander Oliver Perez, who pitched well for Norfolk on Monday.Martinez, 34, has been bothered by the strain for at least the past three starts including Monday, when he allowed six runs in one inning in the second-shortest outing of his career.Martinez will wear a protective boot for the first week, when he'll be limited playing catch a riding a stationary bike

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 So no concerns about Pedro needing to build arm strength, like some pitchers talk about needing.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Better Heath Bell than Jose Lima.
