Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Some nice defense gets the Thick-Legged one out of the inning unscathed.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Heath Bar is quietly having himself a good year out of the extreme back of the pen.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Castro and Pedro the only starters without a hit today.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I think Hatteberg is German for "Town of Unassisted Double Plays."

Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Feliciano started the 8th, getting the first two outs, then giving up a single and a ground rule double. Bradford comes in to pitch to David Ross with two on and two out.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Informal poll time.Who should pitch the ninth?Later
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I dunno. Why not leave Bradford in?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Castro, Pedro, Woodward, and Beltran the only starters without at least 2 hits today.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I'd let Bradford start the 9th and try to finish out the game. Why tire someone else out with a big series coming up against Toronto starting tomorrow?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I agree. I'm hoping Willie doesn't try to "build up Wagner's confidence".Later

Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 And it's Bradford.Howie thinks Wagner should have started the inning. Keith disagrees.Castro flies out. Two outs to go.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Bradford K's Valentin for the second out. And I'm feeling good about how he's doing (unlike how I felt with Wagner on the mound last night).
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I'm thinking we got a pretty durn good bullpen. Just need the closer to get it together.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Fun day to be at the ballpark. Lots of groups/organizations basically taking over the entire mezzanine, plus the $5 upper deck tickets so the place was pretty full.Reyes advancing to third on the Woodward groundout was great, he basically didn't stop running while at 2nd base.Didn't have the benefit of the replay but Pedro looked really disappointed that he didn't get that hit.Heath Bell waited for all of the infielders before the dugout rail, giving them all props, especially Reyes. He was pumped after the DP.Curtain call for Wright after the 2nd homer was nice.

I was in a nice spot in the lodge, shaded but without losing too much view (couldn't see a chunk of the RF corner/Mets pen, but hey).Didn't realize until I got home that Reyes was the first guy to swipe a bag off Milton this season, but damn was it fun to watch him run. The ground ball play you mentioned was cool because my eyes were following the throw to first, and when I pick my head up, Reyes is at third. Javier Valentin's AB in the 9th was classic. Guy just did not want to be up there batting in the heat on his day off. Great, great day to catch a ballgame.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 A good write-up of that play I was wondering about from the Times:In the fifth inning yesterday, Reyes led off with a single against Reds starter Eric Milton. With Chris Woodward batting, Reyes broke toward second. Woodward's grounder pulled third baseman Juan Castro toward shortstop, and when Castro threw to first, leaving third base uncovered, Reyes accelerated, reaching there easily. He scored on Beltrn's single.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 ]Wright, watching the ball touch down 415 feet away in the left-center bleachers, almost passed Beltran on the bases because Beltran was preparing to tag up. Did this really happen (Wright's first home run, the one in the fourth inning) or is the Post just being dramatic?
