Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Most surprising is Lo Duca leading over Piazza. (And widening his lead, at that!) Mike's reign had to come to an end at some point, but I don't think I would have guessed that Paul Lo Duca would end it.Wright closing in on Rolen, huh? I'd love to see him win that one.I think Beltran will probably win his position. When does voting end?And are Wright, Reyes, and Delgado all in second place?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 Reyes is in 3rd in the close race. Renteria between him and Eckstein.Beltran is in 2nd place, but the top 3 outfield spots get to start, hence measuring him versus the 4th place vote-getter. Beltran is 83,506 votes behind Andruw Jones for the overall outfield lead.Delgado and Wright are in 2nd place also.Online voting ends Midnight EDT on June 29. Ends at the ballparks on June 24.

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Oh yeah, this year it counts.I still won't be watching.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Looks like Pujols won't play anyway so we're looking at three possible starters.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 I like the Royals idea, but my AL votes tend to go to:1. Ichiro (trailing Damon for 3rd place)2. Mark Loretta (deserving, and he trails Cano for the lead)3. Miguel Tejada (obvious reasons)4. Mike Lowell (same thing).
Guest sharpie Guests Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Other than Vladimir Guerrero, the AL leaders are either Yankees or Red Sox.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I'm going to take my AL ballot and punch everyone who's NOT a BoSox or Yanqui

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 That +923 is about as close as I've ever seen.Wright beating Rolen is a surprise to me. I figured Rolen was still the name brand that peeps would go with.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 we need to support wright and beltran, start making those bullshit gmail accounts!
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Trying to remember how often does a starter get voted in who is unable to play as may be the case with Pujols this year? I'm pretty sure that the manager just names a replacement starter and that they don't go to the next name on the list from fan-voting. But I'm not positive. Am I right?
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Beltran gets hot and loses ground, boo.Maybe he'll pick it back up by the next count.

Delgado could be a strong choice, but there's also Ryan Howard, or Garner giving the start to Berkman.

Delgado could be a strong choice, but there's also Ryan Howard, or Garner giving the start to Berkman.Right now the selection process is:Fans vote starterPlayers vote for the next tier including starters and relievers, the position player goes to runner up if its the sameThen the manager and league office make up the rest of the 29 man roster Then there is the Internet vote of the 30th man, no clue how they select the ballot for that, probably the biggest "Name" still out in the cold after the selections have been madeFrom there, its the manager's decision who should start if the chosen start is unable to play (also has to give up a roster slot as well, of course said replacement doesn't have to start in the injured players stead, but it does usually work out that way)
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I kinda wanted Piazza to win just because he's my buddy and he won't be getting put on the team by the manager. LoDuca woulda got put on anyway and I don't care if some other shlub doesn't get a spot because the fans voted for Piazza.

The starting lineup spot typically passes to someone already selected for the team.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 As recently as 2003, the Mets had a single All-Star, and he was perhaps the least popular player on the team.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 What's the most Met starters ever?Doc, Darryl, and Gary?
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 In '86 they had Carter, Hernandez, Straw and Doc.I'm assuming that's the most. OE: It is the most.
