Maybe 8.

Really, on a track to break the 44-year-old team's scoring record and extend it by 13.4% and do it in season that began with his deathwatch on this board and do it in a season in which his teammate is also on a track to break the record.

Spectacular.

adj.
Of the nature of a spectacle; impressive or sensational.

Tom Glavine, winning only twice in four June starts, has fallen off the pace to win his 300th game this season.

Steve Trachsel, on the other hand, is back on track to crack the Mets top ten winningest pitcher list.

Roger Clemens is on a pace to win zero games this season.

This is getting crazy. A few days playing on a rug and Jose has now tied for both the third tripliest season in Met history, and the third tripliest career in Met history. He started the season tenth on the team's all-time list and is now third, and is actually making a run for second.

Second. Second all-time. He probably won't make it, but then again he might. And he just turned 23 two weeks ago.

In the Met career, Jose saying S'long to Cleon. Buddy now under siege.

In the Met season, only two peeps are ahead of Jose, one of which is Jose. He's on a pace to break the record by 10.2%

By the standards of a big-league season, he's on a pace for a top-twenty tripling season.

Amazin'.

The Daily News today printed a list of the all-time top 28 career strikeout leaders.

Of the 28, eight have played for the Mets: Ryan (1), Seaver (6), Martinez (14), Lolich (17), Tanana (19), Cone (21), Spahn (23), and Koosman (26).

Seven of the 28 are currently active: Clemens, Randy Johnson, Maddux, Martinez, Schilling, Smoltz, and Mussina.

I know the eras are very different, but it was kind of nice to see that Jerry Koosman (2,556) had more strikeouts than Christy Mathewson (2,502).

Worth noting that Beltran has 94 runs batting in. Only 27 players in Mets history have finished with higher totals. Beltran, of course, has another 58 games left in his season, and projects to a season total of 146, which would smash the record of 124 that Mike Piazza set in 1999.

Is this the best offensive season in Mets history?

Beltran already tied for the 28th best RBI season. Not bad kid.

That's not a bad RBI count for Huskey back in '97.

this really is 1999 & 2000 put together and minus a decent braves team isn't it?

David Wright's almost everything Edgardo was and more.

Beltran's the superstar import providing Piazza's power plus playing every day.

Delgado is a very different animal from Olerud, but producing just as effectively.

The main difference is that back then --- as much power as we had --- our on-base percentage was the greater weapon, with Henderson, Cedeo, Alfonzo, and Olerud all at .385+. Piazza, too, was at .361 and Ventura at .379.

Now our greater weapon is probably the slugging profieciency (with Brian Bannister leading the way with a .700 slugging percentage). My fear is that power is more prone to a team-wide slump than on-base percentage.

I can't back that up, though.

OE: There's also no Ordonez hole in the lineup in 2006.

I had thought second base would fill be the '06 version of Ordonez's bat, unless Kaz performed. But Valentin = fact.

Yup. Not even a Santana or Elster on this years squad!

With two more homers, Jose Reyes breaks the Mets' record of homers by a shortstop, which would be lamentable only because it's a crown remakably co-held by two guys (Elster and Howard Johnson) setting the mark in the same season (1989).

Jose sitting pretty at 30th all time. Has a shot at the top 20 by the end of the season.

This should have been noted at his last win, but Steve Trachsel is now one of the Mets top ten winningest pitchers. Not bad for a whipping boy whose career has largely coincided wtih a dip in the Mets' fortunes.

Congratulations, Steve.
