Wagner's Finger Woes

Every year, usually in spring, a seemingly minor injury comes up. Scarlet freaks out, seemingly over-reacts ,according to cooler heads, but the injury turns out more serious.

So everybody join Scarlet and freak out. Maybe a reverse thingie will kick in.

No new Met gets me less excited than Billy Wagner.

Me too. If Wagner has to miss a few weeks (or more) let Heilman close and put Bannister in the rotation. We'll be fine.

That's the excitement level I want from my closer. He's here, he's doing his job, next game.

We do have a bit of depth and some options if it comes to that.

But Im gonna just hope Wags gets well real soon.
I would really like to see a full healthy team out of the gate.
We got 2 weeks.......

*Z crosses fingers*-OW!-hurt my tendon sheath.

"I bit that bastard's finger and I'll do it again."

Actually, it strikes me that Duaner Sanchez kind of wears his hair like an alpaca.

Are you suggesting that Duaner Sanchez bit Wagner's finger?

Maybe Wagner thought Sanchez was an alpaca and was checking his teeth.

See, I'm guessing that Julio ("has experience as a closer") or Sanchez (ditto) would close.

I'd much rather have Wagner out there than either of those two.

Probably Sanchez.

Another fearless prediction: Julio will pitch his last game ever for the Mets some time in May of this year.

All experience isn't good experience. I mean, Mel Rojas has experience as a closer, but I don't think we're signing him up.

Or did I speak too soon?

Duaner (who closed for the Dodgers the end of last year) would prolly close before Julio.

Wagner's obviously a good guy to have, but the $$ and the years are a little much for a guy his age and the expectations were already out of sight before this injury.

Fearless Prediction:
Wagner's first blown save will bring howls of despair from all over Met-dom about why he had to "turn into Benitez" as soon as we got him.

After all, he's never blown a save prior to this season.

Well that's just silly. Wagner has blown saves like any other closer.

He just hasn't blown any big, important ones.
