Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Closer Shut Down With Unspecified Finger InjuryDamn!
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Amputate it and get the hell back out there and pitch.I vote we let Pedro close until Wagner gets better.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Sounds pretty trivial. A few days off and he'll be fine.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Every year, usually in spring, a seemingly minor injury comes up. Scarlet freaks out, seemingly over-reacts ,according to cooler heads, but the injury turns out more serious. So everybody join Scarlet and freak out. Maybe a reverse thingie will kick in.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 No new Met gets me less excited than Billy Wagner.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 It's probably nothing ... which was also my first reaction to Saberhagen's finger injury.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 "I've got blisters on my fingers!"
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 "It's been a long, long, long time..."
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 ]No new Met gets me less excited than Billy Wagner.Dickshot showing love for Tike Redman and Jose Valentin.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 "I bit that bastard's finger and I'll do it again."Actually, it strikes me that Duaner Sanchez kind of wears his hair like an alpaca.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Are you suggesting that Duaner Sanchez bit Wagner's finger?Maybe Wagner thought Sanchez was an alpaca and was checking his teeth.

If Wagner has to miss a few weeks (or more) let Heilman close and put Bannister in the rotation. We'll be fine.See, I'm guessing that Julio ("has experience as a closer") or Sanchez (ditto) would close. I'd much rather have Wagner out there than either of those two.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Probably Sanchez.Another fearless prediction: Julio will pitch his last game ever for the Mets some time in May of this year.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Fearless prediction: Julio will remain on the Met 25-man roster (barring injury) all year.
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 All experience isn't good experience. I mean, Mel Rojas has experience as a closer, but I don't think we're signing him up.Or did I speak too soon?
Guest sharpie Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Duaner (who closed for the Dodgers the end of last year) would prolly close before Julio.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Wagner's obviously a good guy to have, but the $$ and the years are a little much for a guy his age and the expectations were already out of sight before this injury.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Fearless Prediction:Wagner's first blown save will bring howls of despair from all over Met-dom about why he had to "turn into Benitez" as soon as we got him. After all, he's never blown a save prior to this season.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Well that's just silly. Wagner has blown saves like any other closer. He just hasn't blown any big, important ones.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 you know why he got injured, don't you?Wags can't take the pressure.
