Ironically, Cuba has a shortage of lefties.

maybe we can help them out, i propose we allow freedom loving Cubans to come here in exchange for an equal number of crazy lefties like Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore.

Some great defense happening in this game. Ogasawara lays out to stop Enriquez's sharp grounder to right, then flips to Watanabe.

Pedroso nailed Satozaki & Kawasaki despite picture-perfect drag bunts.

Paret with a leap to rob Ichiro of a double.

I'm missing a play or two by Enriquez, but damn do these guys have some chops.

on edit: ah, that's right--Pedroso nailed Kawasaki on the drag bunt, but Enriquez got Kawasaki on HIS bunt.

Good game. I'm totally rooting for Japan, but I'm glad Cuba's back in this.

I know, that was totally my bad.

They're lucky they got out of that inning.

Good game-good baseball.

An amazing block by Pestano but an even more amazing slide by Kawasaki.

I thought Pestano had him, but it looks like Kawasaki slid his hand in there.

Crazy.

Rats! I was hoping Cuba would have the tying runs on base in the bottom of the 9th, just for the drama.

How fucking classy is that? Cuba coming out to shake the hands of the Japan team during their celebration.

I love that.

Great game, great tournament. Next spring is going to be awfully dull by comparison.

Congratulations to Japan the first ever World Baseball Classic champion.

What an awesome tournament.

It was enjoyable.
But its baseball- how could it not be?
