nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 read carefully...the league name is "CranePool Forum League"the password is "edkranepool"the League ID# is 11835.please only sign up if you are one of the twenty guys on the list in the other thread, YOU MUST MAKE YOUR TEAM NAME YOUR BOARD NAME FOR NOW, we can change them later but right now for the purpose of making sure everyone who belongs in gets in we need to know who is who. i will delete any team that does not match up with a forum name because as far as i know its a stranger who is taking up the spot reserved for one of us.i've set the categories/rosters/everything else to their defaults except the 20 team maximum, we can change them later.i've set the draft time to Saturday, March 4th at 6:45 pm, it can be changed later but i needed to set a time to start the league.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 http://fantasysports.yahoo.comWe should go ahead and pick a draft time as soon as possible. The good ones go fast.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 i took saturday march 4th just now and all the saturdays and sundays after that are already gone! (they probably go to yahoo employees before registration even starts)
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 They're probably reserved for the paying leagues.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 20 teams is going to be f-ing hard. I'm up for the challenge, but I hope I don't finish 20th.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 whoever finishes 20th will be "relegated" and replaced in next year's league
Guest cooby Guests Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 BTW, I have offered my spot to duan and he never responded, so maybe somebody else would like it
Guest Matt Murdock, Esq. Guests Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 there are going to be 20 teams, drafting 28 players each? jeez. that's almost every player in MLB.Those teams drafting at the end of the first round will basically not HAVE a 1st round pick... they'll have 2 2nd rounders. Which means they start off a distinct disadvantage.but i guess there is nothing to be done about it, if we're going to have a league this big.And having no IP limit and no RP requirement takes out some of the strategy of the league, but whatever. However, the problem with having to carry 2 catchers in a 20 team league is that there aren't 40 starting catchers in MLB. Therefore, 8-12 teams will have to carry part-timers and backups as their 2nd catcher, and will be at a distinct disadvantage from the outset, compared with teams that were able to draft 2 starting catchers. This is different from 9 pitchers or 5 OFers or a CI and a MI, since there'll be enough starters at those positions to go around. Has this 28-player / 2-catcher requirement already been decided? Can we vote on it? Personally, I'd prefer a 23-player roster, with 1 catcher.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 were you reading? i put the default roto settings in until we decide on things, you cant start a league without settings.
Guest abogdan Guests Posted February 4, 2006 Posted February 4, 2006 Draft times closer to the regular season usually open up as the season approaches.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2006 Author Posted February 4, 2006 that has not been my experience in past years, but we'll see. theres no way in heck that we are getting a time that works for 20 people even if yahoo would give us whatever time we wanted. the best we can do is take the closest weeend to the season that we can get.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I registered.Never been in a FBL this big.Should be a fun and interesting experience.Well, interesting, thats for sure.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Guys I have never done a live draft, anything I should know, any hints, give me a clue as to how it works , much appreciated.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 ]were you reading? don't get snippy with me, mister. i get enough of that from my 8-year old. I've played in some Yahoo public leagues, and their settings (which i assumed were default settings, since Yahoo sets them, and they were all identical) were much different, so i didn't read CAREFULLY enough to see that you said you'd set them to "default". I'm confused by that, but happy that the parameters are still up for discussion.just so you know, in the 6 Yahoo public leagues i've participated in over the past 2 years, they've all had the following parameters:5x5 standard rotolive snake draft23-man roster =- 11 hitters: C, 1b, 2b, ss, 3b, MI, CI, Of/Of/Of, Ut- 7 pitchers: SP/SP, RP/RP, P/P/P- 5 bench, with 1 DL slot1250 IP / 162 game caps15 game position eligibilitywith daily transactions and lineup changes;1 day FA pickups;3 day waiver/trade periods;
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 i meant standard rotisserie settings not standard yahoo settings.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 We may want to think about an auto-draft (i.e., each owner ranks the players and the computer selects their top available choice each round). I don't know if we could find a time that works for everybody, and 20 owners drafting 20+ players apiece will take quite a long time.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2006 Posted February 7, 2006 while i very much like h2h better than roto, at which i suck, i would like our league to have similar settings to those vickie just posted.i hate autodrafts, too. hey, lets make a poll!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2006 Author Posted February 7, 2006 we're doing a live draft at a time that as many people as possible can agree on... those who don't want to draft can still do pre-rankings, but for me and i'm sure several others the draft itself is a LARGE part of the fun in any league.
Diamond Dad Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I'm in. Live draft is the only way to go. H2H would be fun, but whatever the commish wants is fine with me.How much would it cost us to upgrade to a paid league? What would be the advantages?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Isn't this one of those deals where it's a live draft, but anyone who's not logged in just goes off their draft lists? That seems reasonably fair.
Guest abogdan Guests Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 The Yahoo draft software is ideal for this sort of league. Live draft for those who want to sit through 28 rounds and can make it, and autodraft for those who can't/don't want to sit through the draft, or can only make it for part of it. One Yahoo autodraft tip: the software will fill in your starting lineup before drafting any bench players. This probably won't be an issue in a league this large, but is something to keep in mind when doing your draft rankings.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 yeah, i'll admit i've bailed on the bench portion of a few drafts when i was running late, the queue works well there, you can set it in the draft room incase you lose your connection.yahoo's lists are sometimes really bad, if you plan on drating with a list make sure you put any long-term injured players on "do not take" list, yahoo might not have them there if they got hurt within a week before the draft. also, they'll go by 2005 stats more than anything else...if you expect guys like Brian Roberts to repeat their year thats your call, but just be wary of where yahoo ranks these 1-year wonders and 1-year busts, guys who were injured last year may be far lower than you think they should be as well.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Um, would you please stop helping people? Brian Roberts is going to hit .380 with 180 RBI this season.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2006 Author Posted February 8, 2006 i'm just making sure people know what to expect if they try to slide by on yahoo's rankings.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 OK, I think I'm registered.
patchyfogg Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Baby Fogg #2 is due around that date, so I think I'll be a pre-ranker.
