seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Were they like Voltron? Or was Voltron a ripoff of that?
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 G-Force was first...and it kicked the ever-living-shit out of Voltron. G-Force was awesome...their ship could turn into a fiery phoenix. It beats those stupid lions any day.A couple of things really annoyed me about Voltron:1. Why did they always attack separately before forming Voltron? If Keith were a decent leader, he should have come up with a better game plan:"You know guys, I've been thinking...instead of attacking as lions and getting our asses kicked, why don't we meet up, form Voltron, make the sword, and then attack the Robeast." 2. Did Keith have to really narrate the formation of Voltron each time? How many times could those guys have heard it before they get sick of listening to that?"We got it Keith...and you'll form the head...we know, we know."3. Sven. Not only did he lose his seat to the Princess (I'm not sure this was ever adequately explained). But at some point, he gets captured and sent to some slave colony. The part that pisses me off...THEY NEVER TRIED TO RESCUE HIM. It was mind-boggling. In one episode, they actually went there to fight a Robeast, saw him, and left him there inexplicably. I mean, how loyal is this Voltron team if they decline to rescue their old buddy from a prison planet even when they happen to be there. How much more effort would it have taken? One more swipe of the Blazing Sword? If I'm Sven, the minute the happens, I'm at Prince Lotor's castle telling him where the lions are hidden.(Incidentally, Sven would have been the much better illustration of what happened to Trachsel)
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Can we get a translation of the new Met toon? Are there English translations in cyberland?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Battle of the Planets preceded G-Force. According to Battle of the Planets Universe, the granddaddy of them all was Science Ninja Team Gatchaman.Alrighty.]Battle of the Planets was a translation of a series that ran in Japan in the 1970's called Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, which ran for a grand total of 205 episodes. The original series was revolutionary in it's day, starting a whole new genre for 'team' shows. Battle of the Planet was created using 85 episodes of the first Gatchaman series, which ran for 105 episodes. Animation of 7-Zark-7, the Ready-Room, and several space and planet shots were added to BotP by an American animation studio. You'll note how their visors each represents the bill a different kind of bird --- very Japanese that, attaining superpowers by merging with an animal spirit. But while the more mature males on the team get the bills of birds of prey, Princess and Keyob get more unwieldy duck-like bills.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 According to the Voltron Wikipedia entry:]Sven Holgersson (Japanese Name : Takashi Shirogane)- Sven was the second in command who piloted the Blue Lion and wore a black uniform in the very beginning of the series. In episode 6, he was badly injured during an attack by Haggar and was sent away to be healed. Allura replaced him as the Blue Lion's pilot. His age is about the same as Keith's. Sven now resides on the Planet Pollux with Princess Romelle and Prince Bandor, both cousins of Allura. Sven was always very quiet and spoke only when he had something important to say. Though he may not look it, he is a very emotional person, and his heart is always leading his mind in any decision. Apparently, it was rehab that he got sent to, not a slave colony. So there you go.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 If I remember correctly, Sven's rehab colony was attacked by Zarkon and Sven was taken to a slave planet. A planet from which, I think, he managed to escape by himself, along with some chick he was seeing at the time.Details escape me, but never let facts get in the way of a rant. That's how I roll.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Is this show related in some way to "Star Blazers"? I obviously don;t recall the one you're talking about and if I did, not as well as you guys neither.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 This thread has been hijacked in hilarious fashion.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 ]We should create an exclusive Cranepool Forum/Mets comic strip. Not a bad idea, but I see it decending into porn by like issue three.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Took me two or three reads, but I got it. These are pretty amusing.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 I don't get it. Omar Minaya (played by Roland Gift of the Fine Young Cannibals) wears an Expos' jersey, weeps, changes to a Mets jersey and plays with dolls. Huh?!?!
