There's no gun on this telecast. I'd like to know how hard Tommy is throwing today. Looks like he's got something extra on his pitches.

Just for reference, the first documented usage of a "entrance" theme for a reliever was Sparky Lyle at Yankee Stadium. He'd march out to "Pomp & Circumstance"

AFAIK the next time something like that was really used was when Mitch Williams adopted "Wild Thing" in the early 1990's

]Wow...I had no idea Wright had that kind of opposite field power.

Best part of that guy --- the inside-outness of his swing, always leading wtih his hands. He's very hard to jam.

I don't see any holes at all. I'm scared when things look that good.

Back home (finally). Great day at Shea! Nice to meet Soup and glad to give Cooby a ride. Mini Knight had a blast (and so did David Wright!). Memories for the album.

The one picture on the Sidekick was accidentally erased, but hopefully I'll have something good developed tomorrow from the other camera.

I love listening to Gary & Keith. Gonna be a fun season.

So now we all know that we def got the benefit from the call at home ... but y'know what, it was LoDuca's slight-of-hand that sold it. He dropped and then picked up and showed the ball so quickly that not only did the ump not see it (he was on the wrong side) but even Royce Clayton, who was on the correct side instructing Soriano to slide, didn't see it either. Nifty bit of handiwork by the newbie. I bet he could be a good juggler.

Half of baseball is 90% deception. Perfectly cromulent play.

What a great day. I haven't read all this but it was unbelievable.

I got home about 10:30, had a hot shower, a pizza and I am about to start my second beer.

Publicly thanking DDad and Scarlet, and their super kids for having me. Great meeting our own KC and the wonderful KB, she was super and a lot of fun!
Also met some other nice friends of the Diamond Knights and the KCs (Tony and Tony) And one of the Knights' friends had on a Rey Ordonez jersey! I 'bought" him a beer.
Speaking of beer, I think everyone of us spilled ours yesterday at one time or another. It was pretty funny at the time...

and hey! I met soupcan too! :)

Time to clear up the "Enter Sandman" debate...

From Wagner.........

]

For the record, Wagner said those quibbling with his entry music ought to take up their grievance with his former Astros teammate Jeff Bagwell. When Wagner began his major-league career in Houston, he used George Strait's "They Call Me the Fireman," which Bagwell prodded him to change.

"I know, Mariano's got it. Lord forbid, the Earth should crumble if two people have it," Wagner playfully said about the Metallica tune he has since used. "I play for the Mets. He plays for the Yankees. I never have to face him and he never has to face me. So there's really no big competition there."

Were M&MD really making this an issue?

Ignore them and they go away.

I was dumbfounded to turn on WFAN yesterday and hear that Wagner's song and the traffic getting into Shea were the hot button issues.

God Bless America for letting these two have a career when these are the topics they choose to give weight to on Opening Day.

Wagner's song? Are you kidding me?

The traffic getting into Shea on a day or night when the game is sold out (Opening Day, Yankees-Mets, post-season) is well documented. It sucks but its not unexpected and if one gives oneself plenty of time to get there and get into the lot, there are no problems.

Hopefully these guys will be talking about sports today.

Thank you Yogi Berra (sort of).

FWIW: Strawberry looked and sounded better yesterday (heard him on
several TV & radio spots) than he has in years, maybe ever.
I'm certainly hesitant to whole-heartedly buy his claims that he's loving life
these days and is on the straight & narrow, but he's speaking well and seems
genuinely agreeable to doing interviews and the like - something that certainly
wasn't the case earlier on in his life.

Maybe he finally has turned a corner.

Jesse taking Keith's advice on Just for Men? You think?

Posted

Yeah I think he is Edgy, when Jesse visted the booth they talked again about Keith telling Jesse to throw your fukcing slider, a story I have heard Gary Carter say is BS.......any chance of getting the clock updated here?

I cannot believe these morons are STILL talking about this song 'controversy'.

'It's a Yankee thing..!"

No, dumbass, it's a stupid thing. Drop it!

It's frequently offputting to see old-timers return wearing gear that's so different from that which they wore in their day.

Not that I had thing for the piping, but...

if I were Wagner, around this point I'd ask if I could wear Mariano's number, start affecting a Panamanian accent, and commence electrocuting a few relatives in my swimming pool, too.
