Team Theme Song

The White Sox have picked "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey (1981) for their team song for the rest of the playoffs.

What popular song title "says it to you" for the Mets?

Meet the Mets

I think that's all the theme song we need.

Let's Go Mets Go.

Yeah, it's silly. But it always brings back 1986 for me.

I'm stealing this from Bill Clinton..

Don't Stop
Fleetwood Mac

If you wake up and don't want to smile
If it take just a little while
Open your eyes and look at the day
You'll see things in a different way
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
Why not think about times to come
And not about the things that you've done
If your life was bad to you
Just think what tomorrow will do
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
All I want is to see you smile
If it takes just a little while
I know you don't believe that it's true
I never meant any harm to you
Don't stop thinking about tomorrow
Don't stop, it'll soon be here
It'll be, better than before,
Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
Don't you look back
Don't you look back

Indeed, Yancy. Adopting theme songs is for teams that don't have their own.

Speaking of which, anyone got a link to where I can hear Meet the Mets?

Meet the Mets. But the original of course, not the later, more PC version.

And if there were an official Mets soundtrack, The Curly Shuffle would have to find a place on it.

God, how lame do you have to be to have a Journey song be your anthem?

This isn't the official team song. It is the song the players (led by AJ Pierzynski) blare in the clubhouse. The first of these I remember was when the Pirate players of the Willie Stargell era used to play "We Are Famileee" by Sister Sledge.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I liked the LA Woman Mets of 1999.

And for the record, any team that uses Journey as a theme song deserves to lose.

I like this game. I mean, of course it's Meet the Mets, but is there a particular song that encapsulates the Mets 2005 season? How about individual players?

Perhaps "Ride My See-Saw" by the Moody Blues for the Mets 2005?

For A-Rod: "Common People" (Pulp, featuring William Shatner)?

For Petey, maybe a little Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, courtesy of Handsome Boy Modeling School:

Magnetizing

]Del, advancing dancing over beats
Romancing microphones wit my glorious speech
No shorts like BVD, I'm next like DVD
I hit the metropolitan wit music I be modeling
Showin off, goin off, wiggin
Biggin up the town where I come up from, my humble beginnings
The neo-narrator, creative care-taker
I'm from the Five Flavors like Solar Flares on paper
. . .
Speakin facts, we can rap
Fuck scrappin and tappin, jaws I'm crackin
Doors, open for brothers comin after me
Fuck apathy, I ain't got time to blame the world for my problems
I'm a grown fuckin man and I understand
Plus knowledge being gathered, each day make me
Speak this way, so get it
The way that I spit it, critics couldn't never call me half-witted
I'm the Riddick Bowe flowa for those in the know
My logo represents thought-processing
To keep em all guessin, wit these lyrical blessings
Class is in session, class is in session

Hypnotizing, magnificent mind set
Whenever I'm next, the shit you haven't tried yet
Live shit, magnetizing, peep what I'm advertising
My alliance got your third eye cryin

D-E-L he rips microphones, D-E-L he can't leave it alone
Can't leave it alone, he can't leave it alone

It is pretty funny to imagine a bunch of grown men returning to the clubhouse all jacked up after a big win, turning up the speakers as loud as they can go, and acting all silly to the sounds of Meet the Mets.

Oh, the butcher and the baker and the people on the street
Where do they go?
To meet the Mets!

Can lyrics be more rockin' than that?

I really loved the ecumenical version that Edgy came up with a couple of years ago. How did that go again?

HahnSolo - "God, how lame do you have to be to have a Journey song be your anthem?"

Hell, if meant the Mets had made it to the World Series, I wouldn't care if they used a freakin' Celine Dion song as the team anthem.

Dear God, Edgy, that's awful.

(In case you don't want to know, it's a bad Ricky Martin "Livin' La Vida Loca" parody featuring Mets lyrics from 2000.)

I've always had a soft spot for Livin La Vida Loca. MK was a very late talker (although you'd never know that to talk with him now), and that was one of the first songs he would sing along with as a toddler.

That said, it doesn't hold a candle to Who Let the Mets Out?

Elster88 is not nearly creative enough to participate in this contest. But he can't wait to read and vote.

]WOW, that song was awful Edgy but quite funny, I'm wondering why I never heard it in 2000.

I think it's quite clear why you never heard it.

My Mets theme song is "Feeling Stronger Every Day", and it has been since 1973, when that song was current and seemed to fit right in with their pennant drive. I never hear that song without thinking of that season -- my favorite.

Feelin' Stronger Every Day
- Columbia Single #4-45880 (June 5, 1973)
- Hot 100 Chart Position #10
