Kai Correa is highly thought of. I believe he was interim manager for three games previously so why not? They might not want to be because it would be awkward in the spring if Correa is no longer the guy in charge

Subpar strategic decision making and subpar preparation (as evidenced by too many mental errors and lapses in fundamentals) are the two key reasons that stick out, and both are clear to the outside observer.

The third reason (and I believe Centerfield has discussed this before) is the failure to maximize talent.  This is of course much harder for an outsider to evaluate — but when so many players are underperforming for so long, it suggests a larger problem.  Is Mendoza a poor motivator?  A poor evaluator of talent himself?  A bad communicator with the players?  Very hard for me or anyone else on the outside to know, but something is obviously not working correctly.

Oh, I know the concerns with Mendoza. I share them and then some. I was asking specifically about the case for Correa.

Tuesday Night Mets had a surprise radical seat upgrade and we watched from the Oligarch section.

There were always a decent percentage of NYG fans who didn't like/trust Phil Simms, even after they won a Super Bowl with him at the helm (and where he was MVP by going 22-for-25 in pass attempts) and felt that the Giants won despite him not because of him. So my NYG fan buddy Paul was at a game one time -- must have been 1988 when the two backup QBs were Jeff Hostetler and Jeff Rutledge -- where the Giants were losing and a crew in the section behind him starting chanting, WE WANT JEFF! WE WANT JEFF!  So Paul turned and asked them which one. WE DON'T CARE! WE DON'T CARE! 

That the Giants were in the midst of a 10-6 season that year, had just come off a SB year and would shortly win another, or that Simms would wind up with a much better career than either of his backups didn't seem to matter to some. He was still the problem rather than the solution backing up the old adage about how the second (or third) string QB is often the most popular guy on the team since he hardly ever throws key interceptions like that damned starter does.

I watched the first 6 innings, then turned it off.  I can take a team losing, I have a hard time watching a team that regularly not competitive at the plate.  Far too many swing and miss guys.  The only players that I actually enjoy watching bat are Soto, Benge, Ewing, and Young.  I enjoy watching Ewing, Benge, Torrens and Semien play defense.  Beyond that I find little that interests me now.

Which is why it makes sense to try him out now to see what you have. 
 

And if not Kai, then whoever else the Mets might be considering. Back to the original point, we know it’s not Mendoza.

I'm certain that the Mets can do better than Mendoza.

I'm far less certain that they can't do worse.

I also think much of what prompts frustration that is directed at any organization's manager really is a matter of organizational philosophy.
