seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago sez the internet. Thornton has a 3.16 ERA across Bing (5 starts) and Cuse (2), with decent peripherals. Top prospect, lefty. No confirmation as to whether he's starting or "following" yet (Following is still stupid.)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Zach Thornton: 6' 3" / 170 (I'm betting that's a pre - 'filled out' weight); L/L; b. Jan 17, 2002 Winona, Minnesota; 5th round draft pick in 2023 out of Grand Canyon University Phoenix, AZ Had some very nice numbers in 2025 though only across 14 starts for Brooklyn and Binghamton (not sure why so few) with less good but still good stats at the upper levels this year as Wolfie points out. His most recent outing was a six-inning, 9-K / 1 BB / 3 H game vs S-W-B on Friday.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Thornton was just terrific in 2025 — before an oblique injury ended his season in June. Had all the peripherals you want to see — high strikeout rate, low walk rate, near non-existent homerun rate. Has been used almost exclusively as a starter in his pro and college careers, and it looks like he may be getting the first shot to fill Clay Holmes' slot in the rotation. Also, he comes from Arizona, where there are a lot of clay homes.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Wasn't there already an MLB guy called Zach Thornton? Pitched for Cleveland maybe? --> Im thinking of Matt Thornton of the White Sox, etc
