Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Luis Torrens, backup catcher with demonstrable utility despite currently rocking a .200 batting average and a .467 OPS, has been reportedly rewarded on this, his 30th birthday, with a two-year extension. The contract, covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons, is reportedly worth $11.5 million over the two years.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted May 2 Posted May 2 A good extension. Truthfully, Torrens is just as deserving of starting behind the plate as is Alvarez in my opinion.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The headline 'Torrens Extended' makes it sound like he's bucking the ABS era trend by being listed as taller this year compared to previous years club bios.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3 Posted May 3 He has been stellar defensively, which is really the biggest thing you want from your second catcher
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Actually not a bad move. He's been a rarely impressive piece all things considered. Hard to believe he's been with the Mets three years now.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 16 Author Posted August 16 HI, I'm Luis Torrens' contract extension. I'm just dropping in to see how everybody is doing.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17 Posted August 17 Torrens has a .785 OPS against lefties this year, and a .723 OPS against them for his career. That's good enough to make him a must-play with his defensive value. I think holding on to both him and Alvarez was smart.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 17 Posted August 17 For all of Stearns’ missteps, we can note that (1) acquiring Torrens (for nothing more than cash) and (2) extending Torrens are looking good.
