Luis Torrens, backup catcher with demonstrable utility despite currently rocking a .200 batting average and a .467 OPS, has been reportedly rewarded on this, his 30th birthday, with a two-year extension.

The contract, covering the 2027 and 2028 seasons, is reportedly worth $11.5 million over the two years.

A good extension.  Truthfully, Torrens is  just as deserving of starting behind the plate as is Alvarez in my opinion.

He has been stellar defensively, which is really the biggest thing you want from your second catcher

Actually not a bad move. He's been a rarely impressive piece all things considered. Hard to believe he's been with the Mets three years now.
