Mets DFA Montas ... although this is really more of a paper move than anything.

Signed through 2026 but, with his TJ surgery in September, is already out for all of 2026 so they're going to owe him $17 mil either way.

But this will remove him from the 40-man roster and therefore frees up a spot for someone else. Nick Morabito, a 22 y/o speedy OF'er who

spent 2025 in Binghamton, is reportedly that someone which will shield him from the possibility of being taken in the next Rule 5 draft.

Montas, who also pitched for Oakland, Cincinnati, the White Sox, and Milwaukee, oddly ends the NY/NY portion of his career with injuries limiting him to just nine appearances as a Yanqui (8 starts) throughout his two year contract there, and then appearing in nine games as a Met (7 starts) throughout this current two year contract racked by injuries.

I say he should be awarded a statuette of Tony Fernandez for his contributions to Big Apple baseball.

I remember the old joke that the two happiest days of a boat owner's life are the day he gets it and the day he gets rid of it.

Don't remember how I felt about the first one, but I can agree with the second one.

We don't archive threads any more right?

It would be fun to read through our reactions at the time of the signing.

From memory, I think it was a head scratcher. Like I think I gave Stearns some benefit of the doubt, but questioned the move, and strongly preferred Luis Severino.

Me, quoting me:

"I know Stearns has earned some benefit of the doubt. And I'll wait to see who else he brings in. But right now I'm getting Adrian Houser flashbacks."

Montas as a '25 Met: 9 GP, 7 GS, 3-2, 6.28 ERA, 1.60 WHIP.

Houser as a '24 Met: 23 GP, 7 GS, 1-5, 5.84 ERA, 1.53 WHIP.

Yeah, so, there you go

Except I think you’re quoting me.

Never trust guitar dudes. They’re always high and sleep deprived from all those groupies.

Easy for me to mix us up, we are both successful and good looking middle aged Mets fans with huge genitalia.
