This may very well turn out to be nothing, but I want to be transparent and not surprise anybody.

I've started looking into whether it would be possible to sell the UMDB to an interested buyer. My interest in maintaining the site is waning and I'd rather hand it off to someone else than simply shut it down. The estimated valuations that I'm seeing are nice, but nothing that makes me thing "ca-ching!"

I don't know if a buyer would scrap the content and keep the domain name. Or scrap the domain name and keep the content. Or keep both. Or scrap both! (I guess that last option would be pointless.)

Is there anyone here who wants to take it on? (I doubt it; there are very few people here.) Or that knows somebody?

Would this forum survive? If there's a buyer who doesn't want the forum, does anyone here want to take on ownership of it?

I only have questions, but not answers. It's possible that things will continue as they have for another year or more. But maybe not. I hope nobody is too upset about this, but nothing lasts forever.

This should really be moved to a publicly readable section of

forum. I 'ran' this joint for a long time and people need to know

and remember that Ben G also pulled our asses out of the fire

many many times and then took it under his umbrella when I

gave up.

He is our rock star. It's funny how he found us, but that's for

another thread sometime.

I'm on the Board of Directors for the SABR Casey Stengel NYC

Chapter. I can email almost 700 NY baseball people to see if

anyone is interested in taking over the UMDB. There are a lot

of new young people. I can solicit a take over. If that sounds

good Ben lmk.

As far as the forum goes. I can host it somewhere if need be.

The move is not easy.

Yes, please go ahead and do that. Thank you!

As for the forum, if you want to start hosting it again i will, of course, help with the cutover and can continue providing the occasional technical support.

Good stuff Kase , I agree , this should be moved to the main forum I think, regular posters might never see it here

I absolutely agree. I don’t log in here unless I’m going to say something and you can’t see if you’re not logged in.

Moving to forum itself might not be easy but let’s face it, this gets slower every day and since I’m sure Bens tried everything, I don’t see it improving.

Even the guests have gone away Lolol

I think the forum would perform better either with a different hosting company (it's currently on BlueHost, which hasn't impressed me at all) or if it was split away from the UMDB. I think the combined bot traffic of the two entities may be what's causing the issues we've been seeing.

Anyone who owns a domain and a hosting account that supports PHP should (as I understand it) be able to host the forum at no additional charge, as the UMDB has been doing.

I appreciate the time and energy that our devoted administrators/tech support have dedicated to keeping the CPF up and running for so many years. Ben, KC, & Edgy have done an admirable, and often thankless, job of maintaining the CPF for the benefit of our small band of Mets fanatics. I trust them to make the decision on how best to proceed in the future. I will do all in my power to support them, as best I can, with the future of this site.

I wish each of you the best moving forward and hope that Ben can find a suitable buyer to continue the wonderful work he has done with the UMDB site.

I thank each of you for the work you have done and continue to do on behalf of the CPF community.

The more I think about this the more interested I am. Have you had a chance yet to send out that message? Thanks!

I ran it up the flagpole with the other Board members, there's

only four of us lol (one vacancy) and everyone approves.

I'll FWD the email I sent to them. It will come from a different

address than you have for me so if you don't see it check your

spam or junk.

I found this on a site called "crunchbase". It's... not accurate.

Highlights

Ultimate Mets Database is actively using 18 technologies for its website, according to BuiltWith. These include Viewport Meta, IPhone / Mobile Compatible, and SPF.This year, Ultimate Mets Database is projected to spend $85.6K on IT, according to Aberdeen. Ultimate Mets Database employees are showing high interest in Conflict Resolution, Downtown Office Space, and Chicago, Illinois, according to Bombora.

Is the inaccuracy because all your employees are actually showing interest in downtown office space in Joliet rather than Chicago?

I will ****ing cry if the CPF dies.

We need a new platform. phpBB sucks. Maybe.

I just found something interesting. Very, very interesting. I went to

The Sons of Sam Horn Forum and it checked to see if I was human. It

took a half minute and I checked my pulse while waiting (88) and I am

indeed still a human and it let me in.

The next person who runs the CPF should find out how they do that.

That quiz that I put in place a few years ago worked really well for a while. But not so much lately. Maybe it is still keeping some spammers out, but I suppose with AI it's easy enough to ask which names were pitchers and which weren't.

This was something different. I wasn't looking to log in, just

reading, and it checked me out to see if was human. I 'was.'

I wonder how many forums are even alive. Message boards kinda seem like a Y2K thing.

Oddly I do know of one other Met one that is about as active as this one. Also a refugee of the old MoFo of yore.

I found a website at metsefugees dot com. Briefly looking, there's no

phpBB forum there and the site hasn't been updated since 2007.

So yeah, SJR, I can see the similarities...
