30 years old and eligible for free agency this winter. This year he has a 3.96 ERA in 45 games. 1 save. Left-handed. 18 walks, 44 strikeouts, 29 hits, 2 homers allowed in 36.1 innings.

Throws hard. Walks a ton of people.

3.98 ERA and WHIP of 1.294. This might the best we can hope from him. He had a WHIP of 1.566 in 2024.

We used to have Juan Soto. Now we have two Sotos.

Orioles get Cameron Foster and Wellington Arecena

Neither of these names are familiar. So far, anyway, Stearns still has all of the Mets top prospects available to him. This deal is the type that we'd expect from him; getting someone who's a little bit good without really denting the farm system.

Not familiar?! Bugger all! You were in that Name That Mets Prospect thread!!

Soto had 30 saves with an epically bad Tigers team in 2022. As others have said he throws very hard, lotsa K's and almost as many walks

He could be helpful and didn't cost much

99 career ERA+, 4.39 ERA & 4.0 BB/9 since 2023.

Another ****** Stearns half-measure pitching move.

Stearns only seems to care about whether the pitcher has velocity and a high K/9, and not whether the pitcher is actually good.

Soto has a ERA+ of 99 this season and his career ERA+ is 101.

He should help as the bullpen definitely needed help, particularly another lefty. If he could cut down on the walks, he could be very good. Unfortunately, he has had a high walk rate (4.7/9) his entire career, so I don't expect that to change.

He doesn't have a career 99 ERA+.

There aren't enough major league quality relievers to go around, let alone very good relievers, but that guy's gonna complain unless the Mets get Mariano Rivera in his prime.

The Mets have been one of baseball's very best teams for the past 13 calendar months. The Mets have way more strengths than weaknesses. Their top half of the lineup is probably the best in all of baseball and must-see TV. So yeah, Stearns is doing an awful.job. Just awful.

He's a welcomed addition because I've been reading that he has pitched VERY well against LA (which happens to be their next stop and later, a potential playoff foe).

Gee, I was off by 2. You sure got me.

Please come on. You were wrong, about something that isn't that hard.

If you wanted someone who could find and develop young talent, they should have hired Ghislaine Maxwell.

It also isn't hard to note that I clearly referenced his current year ERA+ and not his career ERA+, which are one on top of the other on the stat sheet, and not feel it necessary to call it out and try to boost your ego (again).

Ego? What the ****?

You are just wrong. You are wrong because instead of seeking the truth, you are just seeking information that aligns with your silly, senseless, indefensible, attention-grabbing thesis, and when not finding it, you are reduced to cherry picking and distorting the data that you have, without apparently even knowing that you are doing it.

Ego? I just want decisions about my team to be made based on facts and not ********. If you want to talk more about my ego, please meet me in the Red Light Forum.

Whether his ERA+ is 99 or 101, it shows he is basically league average in ERA. He has a high K/9 rate and a high BB/9 rate. He has an established record and is having a pretty solid season, he should definitely help the Mets bullpen.
