Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Is this guy (part of) the solution to the Mets’ offensive woes? He’s in the final year of his contract with the Diamondbacks, at $15M for the year. He’s a good candidate for a qualifying offer (which he’d likely reject) if he remained with Arizona, so it’s not as if they’d get totally nothing by keeping him.He turned 34 a couple days ago and has been very durable (150 games in 2022, 162 in 2023, 158 last year, 98 of 100 this year).Oh, and he mashes homers, currently leading MLB with 35. (He averaged 28.5 from 2021-2024).
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 You won't get a high average from him, but he could be this year's Cespedes.(or Jay Bruce). But I wouldn't be opposed to him.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 It seems quite a few teams have asked Arizona about Suarez. He may be prohibitively expensive I don't know how much of an upgrade he would represent at 3B
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 He's on my fantasy team, and I already have him written on my desk lamp to remind me to draft him next year.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Author Posted July 21, 2025 I don't know how much of an upgrade he would represent at 3B The Mets have a .635 OPS at third base this year, ranking 26th of 30 teams.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 ... he could be this year's Cespedes.(or Jay Bruce).That made me laugh.Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 He's a legit masher. The only question is to trade away X years of Baty or Vientos to get him
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 I think I saw Some Guy On The Internet predicting he's going to the Yankees, so pre-emptively, **** him
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Author Posted July 21, 2025 If all it takes is Baty you do that deal in a second.(both Baty and Vientos have 4 years of team control after 2025).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Heard Kurkjian saying the other day that the DBacks are the big wild card in this year's trading deadline. They currently sit right at .500 (50-50) and 4.5 G out of the final WC slot but with StL (-3.5), SFG & CIN (both -2.5) between them and current 3rd WC slot holder SDP (Mets are #2 at +1.5). So do they see themselves as buyers or sellers at the deadline? Or is that decision still TBD and subject to change based on what they did in the previous game ... or inning!

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 Baty and Vientos are both a few months away from 26 so you're not risking losing phenoms anymore. They can both go, and hey, throw Brandon Sproat, Dom Hamel and Christian Scott in there, too.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Cubs are said to be in on the hunt for Suarez.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2025 Posted July 22, 2025 Now of course we wouldn't get just Suarez back for those guys. We'd also get many prospects, thereby refreshing our eternal optimism that our deep system will finally pay off, though it rarely does.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2025 Posted July 29, 2025 Suarez was hit on the hand by a pitch in the 9th inning of today's game in Detroit - thus causing at least half the teams in MLB to hold their breath and/or change their plans. But X-rays were negative, so 'Day to Day'
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I don't believe Saurez will be a Met this season
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Author Posted July 30, 2025 I’m open to other offensive upgrades even if I think Suarez is the best option.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Suarez would be great, but I don't believe the Mets have even been mentioned as one of the teams trying to acquire him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Suarez to the Mariners for three prospects. He had previously played for Seattle in 2022 & '23
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Author Posted July 31, 2025 The Mariners sent their #9, 16, and 17 prospects to Arizona in the deal.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 Seattle has a thing for third basemen who can hit but not field.Later
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 I'm quite happy that Saurez ended up in Seattle with Mariners, rather than the Phillies, Yankees, or Cubs who were all reportedly looking at him.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2025 Author Posted July 31, 2025 Seattle has a thing for third basemen who can hit but not field. They do? Adrian Beltre was holding down third base there for a number of years.
