Indeed, Mendoza in the pregame press conference called it pretty significant and said TJ is a possibility.

Francisco Alvarez: Manager Carlos Mendoza said Alvarez (thumb), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, will need to undergo surgery at some point, but the catcher will be re-evaluated in 10-to-14 days to determine if he can play through the injury for the rest of the season, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Alvarez was diagnosed with a right thumb sprain after suffering the injury on a head-first slide into second base Sunday, and it's possible the injury ends his 2025 campaign. However, he's going to attempt to put off surgery until the offseason and play through the sprained thumb. The Mets should have a better idea whether Alvarez will return this season once he's re-evaluated. Injury Thumb. Est. Return 9/8/2025.

Carson Benge: Benge was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday with an undisclosed injury. Benge had played only four games with Syracuse upon his promotion from Double-A Binghamton before going down with the injury. It's not clear what exactly he's dealing with or how long he'll be out, but the injury doesn't help Benge's already-long odds of making his major-league debut in 2025. The 22-year-old has slashed .306/.413/.504 with 12 homers and 20 steals across three minor-league levels this season. Injury Undisclosed. Est. Return 8/24/2025.

Tylor Megill: Megill (elbow) struck out nine batters over 3.1 scoreless innings in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. He allowed just one hit without walking a batter. The right-hander was simply too much for Eastern League hitters, firing 39 of 55 pitches for strikes in his second rehab appearance. Megill hasn't pitched for the Mets since June 14 due to an elbow sprain, so he'll need at least one more start in the minors before potentially being an option for the big-league rotation, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets two more while the team takes a look at top prospect Nolan McLean. Over five innings for Binghamton on his rehab stint, Megill hasn't given up a run while posting a 13:1 K:BB. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 8/27/2025.

Frankie Montas: Montas' UCL injury in his right elbow is season-ending, and Tommy John surgery is being considered, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports Saturday. Montas was placed on the injured list earlier Saturday with a UCL injury that manager Carlos Mendoza called "pretty significant." At this point, it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but the Mets have already ruled him out for the remainder of 2025. Montas is likely to undergo some sort of corrective procedure, and Tommy John surgery is a possibility. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Brandon Nimmo: Nimmo (neck) was out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta. Nimmo isn't part of the lineup for a third straight game, with Starling Marte patrolling left field in his place. Nimmo went through pregame warmups before a final assessment was made on his availability, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Injury Hand. Day-to-day.

Peyton Prescott: Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Jose Siri: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Siri (tibia) will begin a rehab assignment next week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Siri has missed most of the season with a fractured left tibia but is almost ready for game action. Given how much time he's missed, Siri is likely to need at least a handful of rehab contests before returning to the Mets' active roster. How Siri fits into the team's roster is unclear at this point, especially after Cedric Mullins was acquired at the trade deadline. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 9/1/2025.

Luis Torrens: Torrens had been dealing with soreness in his catching hand but was available off the bench Saturday against Atlanta, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Torrens was surprisingly held out of the lineup Saturday for the third straight game, but it turns out his absence is due to soreness in his left hand. While he'll be available off the bench Saturday, Hayden Senger will draw another start behind the plate. Injury Hand. Day-to-day.

So what do you do with Megill once he's back? More to the point, whom does he replace?

So what do you do with Megill once he's back? More to the point, whom does he replace?

Possibly nobody, if they wait until September 1 when rosters expand by two players. If they wanted to call him

up earlier/needed him as a sixth starter, Garrett could go down. Or (probably last resort) a DFA of Stanek.

It was announced today that Alvarez may start a rehab assignment this Thursday or Friday, with hopes he could rejoin the team in early September. I never heard which thumb was injured*, but the report said they will be monitoring both his hitting and catching. The report also didn't specify which level they'll be sending him to, but hopefully AAA, so we can get a report from Fmann.

* = OE: the injury is to his right thumb, so they will also have to see if he can grip the ball well enough to throw.

Francisco Alvarez: Alvarez (thumb) suffered a fractured left pinky finger when he was hit by a pitch during a rehab game at Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Alvarez had been working his way back from a right thumb issue that will require him to undergo surgery eventually. Although he's now dealing with injuries to both of his hands, the young backstop expressed optimism that he'll be able to return at some point this season. Until then, Luis Torrens will continue to work as the main catcher in Queens with Hayden Senger backing him up. Injury Finger. Est. Return 9/16/2025.

Reed Garrett: The Mets placed Garrett on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right elbow inflammation. Garrett had been tagged for eight runs over 4.2 innings covering his last five appearances. He's been given a cortisone shot and hopes to be ready for activation Sept. 7 when first eligible, according to Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record. Garrett's spot on the active roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by Jose Castillo, who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/7/2025.

Tylor Megill: The Mets will have Megill (elbow) make at least one more rehab start before considering activating him from the 60-day injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Heading into the week, Megill looked to be a candidate to start Friday's game against Miami, but the Mets opted to give him another rehab start to stretch out. The 30-year-old right-hander ended up taking the hill Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse in what was the fourth overall outing of his rehab assignment. He covered four innings and tossed 70 pitches for Syracuse, striking out four while allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Megill will likely take the hill again in the minors early next week in what could be his final rehab start, but his role upon his return from the 60-day injured list has yet to be determined. Though Megill is building up as a starter, he could be relegated to the bullpen if top prospect Jonah Tong -- who will be called up from Syracuse to start Friday versus the Marlins -- fares well in his big-league debut and earns himself additional turns through the rotation. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/8/2025.

Frankie Montas: Montas will undergo surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Whether Montas requires Tommy John surgery might not be known until he has the operation, but a full UCL reconstruction is considered "very likely," per Heyman, which would knock Montas out until the 2027 season. The 32-year-old holds a $17 million player option for 2026 that he'll undoubtedly exercise. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Jose Siri: Siri (tibia) is expected to report to Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. Siri has been on the shelf since April 17 due to a fractured left tibia, but he's finally gearing up for a return. With the Mets having acquired Cedric Mullins at the trade deadline to serve as their primary center fielder and with the Tyrone Taylor still available to fill in for Mullins against left-handed pitching, the Mets likely won't be in much of a rush to bring the right-handed-hitting Siri back from the 60-day injured list. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 9/12/2025.

Drew Smith: The Mets announced July 29 that Smith (elbow) has been throwing bullpen sessions and could be close to facing live hitters in batting practice, MLB.com reports. Updates on Smith's rehab from his July 2024 Tommy John surgery with an internal brace have been scarce over the past month, but assuming he's experienced no setbacks during the ramp-up process, he could have an outside shot at returning from the 60-day injured list in September. Before suffering the elbow injury last summer, Smith had been an integral piece in the New York bullpen, posting a 3.06 ERA while collecting two saves and six holds over his 19 appearances in 2024. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/8/2025.

Jesse Winker: Winker (back) was cleared to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Single-A St. Lucie, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Though no reports indicated that Winker had resumed baseball activities, the 32-year-old evidently made enough progress behind the scenes over the last few days for the Mets to clear him for a rehab assignment. He'll start at designated hitter for St. Lucie on Wednesday and likely remain in the minors for several more games in order to stockpile at-bats and prove that his back won't be an issue if he's needed for spot duty in the corner outfield. Though Winker could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point in September, the Mets may not be willing to open up regular playing time for him, especially while the team is getting good results from its current DH duo of Mark Vientos and Starling Marte. Winker slashed an unremarkable .229/.309/.400 in 81 plate appearances in the majors prior to being shut down with the back issue. Injury Back. Est. Return 9/5/2025.

The Syracuse Mets' final homestand is next week. I hope to attend Tuesday and/or Thursday depending on the weather. As per Gary, though, Alvarez is likely to get called up tomorrow for the Reds series. He hit a grand slam yesterday for the AAA Mets in a road game.

Acuna and Sproat also on the MLB roster, or facing impending call ups, meaning most of the most prominent 2025 Syracuse Mets are in the bigs at this point.

Reed Garrett: Garrett (elbow) began a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday. Garrett made his first rehab appearance Thursday and struck out two while allowing one hit across one inning. He has only been sidelined since Aug. 25, so Garrett should be able to return after a couple outings in the minors. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/7/2025.

Tylor Megill: Megill (elbow) struck out five batters and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks over four innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse. After tossing five innings in the third start of his rehab assignment Aug. 22, Megill has now covered four frames his last two times out at Triple-A, but he was able to get stretched out to 79 pitches Tuesday and looks ready to return from the 60-day injured list. The Mets haven't confirmed that Megill will be deployed as a starter upon his activation, though he looks like a decent bet to get a look in that role while Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea have struggled since the beginning of August to put their standing in the rotation on shaky ground. If Megill is inserted into the rotation, he could be reinstated for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, though the Mets may prefer to wait until early next week to make a roster move in order to give him an extra day or two to recover from Tuesday's outing with Syracuse. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/7/2025.

Tyrone Taylor: The Mets placed Taylor on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a left hamstring strain, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. The 31-year-old has been battling hamstring discomfort over the past few days and will now head to the IL after being diagnosed with a strain. The severity of the strain is unclear, so it remains to be seen if Taylor will be able to return after spending the 10-day minimum on the shelf.

Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 9/9/2025.

Jesse Winker: Manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Winker has been shut down from all activities and will likely miss the remainder of the season, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Winker has been on the injured list since mid-July due to back inflammation. He was given the green light to begin a rehab assignment last Wednesday but was shut down after going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in two games with Single-A St. Lucie. With time running out for the 32-year-old to return to Queens this year, it now appears that he'll shift his focus to getting ready for the start of the 2026 campaign. Winker is due to hit free agency this winter. Injury Back. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Tylor Megill: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Wednesday that Megill is being further evaluated as the team seeks to find the source of the pitcher's right elbow discomfort, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Megill has been shut down after he experienced tightness in his pitching arm following his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Mendoza noted Wednesday in regard to Megill's status that Tommy John surgery has not been discussed, though that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be in the future. The righty has been out since mid-June due to elbow trouble, and his availability for the rest of the season is very much in doubt.

Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/23/2025.

Frankie Montas: Montas will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Tuesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. A full UCL repair had been considered likely, and now it's official. The operation will likely sideline Montas until the 2027 campaign. Montas proved to be a disastrous investment for the Mets, posting a 6.28 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances, and he will now undoubtedly exercise a $17 million player option for 2026. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Luis Torrens: The Mets placed Torrens on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a right forearm contusion. According to Laura Albanese of Newsday, Torrens said he suffered the injury while blocking a ball behind the plate in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Reds, and while he has avoided a fracture, he's sore enough that the Mets decide to make a roster move. Hayden Senger was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace Torrens as the Mets' backup catcher. Injury Forearm. Est. Return 9/17/2025.

Jesse Winker: Manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Wednesday that Winker (back) will be shut down for the rest of the 2025 season, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports. Winker landed on the injured list in mid-July due to back inflammation. He was pulled from his rehab assignment last week after suffering a setback, and the injury is severe enough for the 32-year-old to be officially sidelined for the rest of the 2025 campaign. Winker will shift his focus to being ready for spring training and will enter the offseason as a free agent. He logged just 81 plate appearances for the Mets this season, slashing .229/.309/.400 with one home run, one stolen base, 10 RBI and eight runs. Injury Back. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Francisco Alvarez is "sore," per Carlos Mendoza, but the Mets aren't even planning on giving him an x-ray. The ball did not strike him flush on the elbow. Not a lot of concern.

Reed Garrett: Garrett has been recommended for Tommy John surgery, but he may delay a decision on that procedure until he recovers from another surgery on his arm, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The 32-year-old reliever landed on the IL on Thursday, and he appears headed for a lengthy absence. Garrett is already set for surgery to shift a nerve in his pitching arm that's been causing him issues, and he may elect to undergo PRP injections this winter after recovering to see if his elbow can recover without full Tommy John surgery. If he takes that route and still needs to go under the knife, however, Garrett might not be ready to pitch again until the 2027 season. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Tylor Megill: Megill (elbow) is expected to need Tommy John surgery, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports. The right-hander is still getting opinions on the best path forward, but surgery on his elbow appears to be the most likely outcome. Megill hasn't pitched for the Mets since June 14, and full Tommy John surgery, rather than a hybrid or internal brace procedure, would sideline him for at least the entire 2026 season. He wraps up the current campaign with a 3.95 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 89:33 K:BB through 68.1 innings over 14 starts. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Tyrone Taylor: Taylor (hamstring) is playing in a minor-league rehab game Sunday and could join the team in Chicago ahead of a three-game series against the Cubs that starts Tuesday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. Taylor has been on the shelf since Sept. 2 due to a strained left hamstring, but after embarking on a rehab assignment Friday, Taylor is on the brink of returning. Once activated, the 31-year-old will likely be on the short side of a platoon in center field with Cedric Mullins. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 9/23/2025.

Brett Baty—The Mets placed Baty on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a right oblique strain. Baty departed Friday's game with pain in his side, and further testing revealed he's dealing with a strained right oblique. The Mets are still in the mix for the NL's final Wild Card spot, but they'll have to chase a postseason berth without Baty. The third baseman will be eligible for reinstatement Oct. 7, though it's unclear if he'll require more than the minimum stay. Jared Young was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 10/7/2025.

Tylor Megill—Megill (elbow) had Tommy John surgery Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Megill was looking at alternatives, but undergoing Tommy John surgery on his right elbow was deemed the best path forward for him. Unfortunately for the right-hander, this effectively sidelines him for the entire 2026 season at minimum. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Francisco Alvarez - Alvarez will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair a sprained UCL in his right thumb, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Alvarez suffered the injury in late August, but he elected to delay surgery until the offseason and returned to play in early September. The operation could delay Alvarez's offseason workouts a bit, but it should not affect his availability for the beginning of spring training. Injury Thumb. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Reed Garrett: Garrett underwent UCL reconstruction on his right elbow Wednesday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Garrett had hope to avoid UCL surgery and treat the injury with a platelet-rich plasma injection, but ultimately it was decided a reconstruction was the best course of action. The righty previously had an operation to move a nerve in his elbow, so he'll be recovering from dual surgeries on his pitching arm. Garrett will not be ready to pitch again until the 2027 season. The Mets announced that Francisco Lindor underwent a debridement procedure on his right elbow after the 2025 season.

Lindor previously had surgery on the same elbow to remove a bone spur following the 2023 season and went on to have a fully healthy Spring Training and 2024 season (in terms of his elbow, at least). This debridement procedure - typically a minor operation to remove scar tissue of some kind - is more than likely to have little to no impact on Lindor’s readiness for 2026.(all exhale)

Christian Scott: Scott (elbow) expects to be a full participant during spring training, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his right elbow, Scott was scheduled to throw a live bullpen session Tuesday. It was the fourth time he's faced hitters since the September 2024 surgery and the second time he's done so on a five-day schedule. The righty said he's been sitting around 94 mph and touching 96 mph during his bullpen sessions. Scott will now go through a de-loading period before ramping his throwing back up in January. While Scott could be slow-played at the start of spring training following a long layoff, he should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. A spot in the Opening Day rotation is unlikely, but the 26-year-old could be part of the Mets' rotation at some point in 2026. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

I liked what I saw of Christian Scott in 2024. I thought he pitched better than his numbers, but I just looked at the numbers and they weren't particularly good. He pitched better when he first came up in May than he did the second go round in July. But maybe he was already hurt in July?

I see upside. Rooting for him.

Jeff McNeil: McNeil's agent, Garrett Parcell, has revealed that his client underwent thoracic outlet surgery shortly after the conclusion of the regular season, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Parcell said that McNeil already has good range of motion and is expected to participate fully in spring training. Thoracic outlet surgery is a much more serious operation for pitchers, but Parcell did note that the issue caused McNeil discomfort with his swing late in the season. McNeil had a .514 OPS in September after posting an OPS no lower than .742 in any other month. The 33-year-old is tentatively projected to open the 2026 season as the Mets' second baseman, though he offers the versatility to play other positions, if needed. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

AJ Minter: Minter (lat) exercised his $11 million player option for 2026 on Monday, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. Minter made only 13 relief appearances for the Mets in 2025 before undergoing season-ending left lat surgery in early May. The left-hander is expected to be recovered in time for the start of spring training and will return to a high-leverage role in the Mets' bullpen. Minter could even see some save chances in 2026 if Edwin Diaz departs via free agency. Injury Lat. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Frankie Montas: Montas (elbow) exercised his $17 million player option for 2026 on Tuesday. Montas posted a 6.28 ERA in seven starts and two relief appearances in 2025 and will miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, making his option decision an easy one. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Jeff McNeil: The Mets are considering using McNeil (shoulder) as the strong side of a platoon at first base next season, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Healey says the club could consider signing Paul Goldschmidt as the short side of that platoon. It wouldn't make for a very exciting replacement for Pete Alonso, who agreed to a long-term contract with the Orioles on Wednesday, and the likelier scenario is still that McNeil is traded this winter. McNeil underwent thoracic outlet surgery after the season but is expected to be ready for spring training. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

AJ Minter: Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday that Minter (lat) is questionable for Opening Day, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Minter underwent season-ending left lat surgery in early May and it's unclear where exactly he is in the rehab process. Stearns noted that if Minter is not ready for Opening Day, his absence is expected to be brief. The southpaw exercised his $11 million player option for 2026 and is poised to fill a key setup role for the Mets, if healthy. Injury Lat. Est. Return 4/1/2026.

Francisco Alvarez: The Mets and Alvarez (thumb) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.4 million contract Thursday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Alvarez had been arbitration-eligible for the first time as a Super 2 qualifier following a season that saw him put up a .787 OPS with 11 home runs over 76 tilts. The 24-year-old was scheduled to have surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right thumb shortly after the season, but he's expected to be ready to go for spring training. Injury Thumb. Est. Garrett isn't expected to pitch at all in 2026 after undergoing UCL reconstruction surgery in October. However, he will still receive a $350,000 raise after posting a 3.90 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 55.1 innings in 2025 and tallying a career-high 20 holds. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Francisco Lindor: Probable for start of season. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2026.

Tylor Megill: The Mets and Megill (elbow) avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.5 million contract Thursday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Megill pitched well when healthy in 2025, posting a 3.95 ERA and 89:33 K:BB over 68.1 innings, but he was limited to only 14 starts before undergoing Tommy John surgery.
