Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2025 Posted May 5, 2025 I wasn’t advocating for Singleton, just pointing out that the criteria of “hits well in small sample size at AAA” is not particularly meaningful.Of course I agree it will be someone already on the 40-man. They’ve maxed that out with the pitching injuries and have already moved as many people as they can (Montas, Manaea, etc) to the 60-day IL to save space. The only position players on the 40-man not in the majors are Baty, Senger, and Jared Young. I guess they could call up Young if Baty was hurt.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 Jesse Winker expected to be out for 6-8 weeks.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 Well fudgums That is too bad. Winker's spirit (to say nothing of his hitting) gave a certain energy to this club.I do hope that something good comes out of this, though, maybe something beneficial to the team in the long run--that is, Baty responding to this opportunity to become the Mets' regular lefthanded DH (and extra middle infielder) with some solid hitting. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but that's exactly what I think will happen.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2025 Author Posted May 11, 2025 Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) will continue his rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Syracuse, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Blackburn was scratched from his second rehab start in late April due to an illness, but he's since made two appearances in the minors. The right-hander allowed a run on three hits with a 5:1 K:BB over 3.2 frames in his last outing with Syracuse, and he'll continue building up his workload Sunday. Blackburn was unable to earn a rotation spot during spring training and was poised to begin the campaign in a relief role before the knee inflammation surfaced, so a spot in the bullpen likely awaits once he's cleared to be reinstated. Injury Knee. Est. Return 5/16/2025.Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) played catch from 120 feet Friday and is soon expected to start throwing off a mound, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. The left-hander restarted his throwing program in mid-April after receiving a PRP injection to address lingering problems with his strained right oblique, and he's now starting to ramp up in his progression. Manaea will still require a considerable buildup period and a lengthy rehab assignment, but it seems like he could make his season debut before the end of June. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 6/17/2025.Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) threw his third bullpen session Tuesday since resuming his throwing program in mid-April, MLB.com reports. After being diagnosed with a high-grade right lat strain in mid-February, Montas was shut down for nearly two months before receiving clearance to start throwing. He steadily increased his throwing distance off flat ground before recently being cleared for mound work, and he's thus far avoided any setbacks through his three bullpen sessions. Montas could soon advance to facing hitters in live batting practice, but he may be a week or more away from starting up a minor-league rehab assignment. The right-hander isn't expected to be ready to return from the 60-day injured list until around early June. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/1/2025.AJ Minter: Minter will undergo surgery May 12 to repair a torn left lat, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Minter was moved to the 60-day injured list Thursday, and it's since been disclosed that he's elected for season-ending surgery. The veteran southpaw was off to a strong start to the 2025 campaign, allowing only two runs in 13 appearances. Injury Lat. Est. Return 2/1/2026. Injury Lat. Est. Return 2/1/2026.Jesse Winker: Winker has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 oblique strain and is expected to miss the next 6-to-8 weeks, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports. This is unfortunate news for Winker, who was officially placed on the 10-day injured list Monday after suffering a side injury during the first game of Sunday's twin bill against the Cardinals. The injury will open up plenty of opportunities for Starling Marte and Brett Baty in the DH slot. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 6/17/2025.Danny Young: The Mets transferred Young (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Young is slated to undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future, which will end his season and likely keep him out until the second half of the 2026 campaign. By shifting him to the 60-day IL, the Mets were able to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Blade Tidwell, who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader in St. Louis. Before being shut down in late April with the elbow injury, Young had been a key piece in the New York bullpen, gathering four holds while pitching to a 4.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB across 8.1 innings in 10 appearances. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/1/2026.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2025 Author Posted May 19, 2025 Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) is expected to make two more rehab starts before being activated from the 15-day injured list, Joe Pantorno of AMNY.com reports. Blackburn reached 60 pitches in his last rehab outing with Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday and is aiming for the 75-pitch mark Friday with Double-A Binghamton. He's expected to make an additional rehab start after that. There doesn't appear to currently be room for Blackburn in the Mets' rotation, so he could be slotted into long relief when he's activated later this month. Blackburn has been out all season with right knee inflammation. Injury Knee. Est. Return 5/26/2025.Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) is slated to throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Manaea resumed a throwing program in mid-April following a PRP injection and has progressed to throwing from the bump again. He shouldn't be far off from facing hitters and eventually going out on a rehab assignment, but no target date for either has been revealed by the Mets yet. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 6/17/2025.Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) will throw a live batting practice session Friday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. It appears to be the first time Montas will face hitters since he went down with a high-grade right lat strain in mid-February. The right-hander would appear close to a rehab assignment if all goes well, and the Mets have previously pegged early June as a possible return for Montas. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/1/2025. Jose Siri: Siri is progressing more quickly than expected in his recovery from a fractured tibia and has already resumed baseball activities, Tim Britton of the Athletic reports. The Mets don't have a set date for Siri to begin a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old outfielder was able to do some light jogging Monday and could beat the estimated 8-to-10-week timeline he was originally given for his return when he suffered the injury in mid-April. In his absence, Tyrone Taylor has received the bulk of the starts in center field, with Jeff McNeil also getting some occasional opportunities at the position. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 6/7/2025.Drew Smith: Smith (elbow) has been playing catch from 120 feet up to three times per week and threw 10 pitches from halfway up the mound earlier this week, Joe Pantorno of AMNY.com reports. Coming back from his second Tommy John surgery, Smith hopes to throw from the top of the bump in 2-to-3 weeks. The goal for the reliever is to begin a rehab assignment later this summer and return to the Mets before the end of the season, although he might not make it back until 2026. The Mets re-signed Smith in February to a one-year deal with a club option for next season. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/1/2025.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 What about Brooks Raley? Targeting August for a return.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2025 Posted May 19, 2025 That would be a huge lift if he's healthy and effective.I'm getting way ahead of myself here. But I feel like a huge part of how we do in October will depend on the performance of our left-handed reliever.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2025 Author Posted May 27, 2025 Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) is expected to make one more rehab start Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse before making his season debut for the Mets the following Monday against the Dodgers, Tim Britton of the Athletic reports. The 31-year-old right-hander has been sharp over three starts for Syracuse, posting a 2.63 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 13.2 innings, but the Mets have delayed activating Blackburn from the IL until they had a need in the rotation. That need arrives this weekend, when the team plays 10 straight games without an off day beginning May 30. It's not clear if New York will stick with a six-man rotation after that stretch, or if Blackburn will then shift into a long relief role. Injury Knee. Est. Return 6/3/2025.Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) will throw live batting practice Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Manaea will face hitters for the first time since being placed on the 15-day injured list Feb. 24 due to a strained left oblique. The next step in his recovery will be a rehab assignment, though he may throw multiple live sessions before heading out. While he'll likely need several rehab appearances before being activated, Manaea is on track to make his 2025 MLB in early July. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/4/2025.Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) said Friday he's beginning a rehab assignment at High-A Brooklyn and will make a start Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Montas suffered a high-grade right lat strain in February and faced hitters for the first time May 16. He's now been cleared to begin what's expected to be a somewhat lengthy rehab assignment. Per Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record, Montas will throw 30-to-35 pitches Saturday. The 32-year-old logged a 4.84 ERA across 150.2 regular-season innings in 2024. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/23/2025.Rafael Ortega: Injury Undisclosed. Est. Return 5/30/2025.Jose Siri: Siri (tibia) is scheduled to hit live batting practice against Sean Manaea on Thursday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Siri is recovering from a fractured left tibia and has been ahead of schedule in his rehab. Per Albanese, Siri is still limited to running in a straight line, but he's set to hit live pitching for the first time since sustaining the injury. He's on track to return in early to mid-June. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 6/7/2025.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2025 Author Posted June 1, 2025 Paul Blackburn: Blackburn (knee) is expected to come off the 15-day injured list to start against the Dodgers on Monday, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Blackburn is in the final stages of his recovery from right knee inflammation, which caused him to land on the 15-day IL at the start of the season. He's posted a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB across 29.1 minor-league innings during his rehab assignment. It's unclear whether Blackburn will have a consistent role in the Mets' rotation after Monday's start. Injury Knee. Est. Return 6/2/2025.Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) will face hitters again before beginning a rehab assignment in early June, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The lefty threw 20 pitches during a live batting practice session Thursday and another 15 pitches in the bullpen. Manaea has been sidelined since reporting to spring training, so he will need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the big-league rotation. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/4/2025.Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) is scheduled to make a rehab start with High-A Brooklyn on Thursday, Manny Gomez of NJ.com reports. The right-hander covered 1.1 frames in his first rehab start with Brooklyn over the weekend, and he's set to build up to 30-to-35 pitches Thursday. Montas has been sidelined since mid-February due to the lat strain, so he'll likely require at least a couple more rehab outings after Thursday before making his 2025 debut for the Mets. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/13/2025.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 2, 2025 Posted June 2, 2025 Tim Britton of the Athletic indicated that Blackburn is only scheduled to get the one start in LA and would remain in the bullpen, with Montas on track for 6/23 against Atlanta, the next time the Mets would need a sixth starter.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 (edited) I can’t find any updates on Brooks Raley except a random tweet by Anthony Dicomo that he should be ready around the end of June. I believe that’s when he’s eligible to be activated off the 60-day IL, not when he’s expected back.Britton’s weekly preview at the Athletic has him expected back in August.Mike Puma of the Post reported today that Raley is pitching live BP and could be in minor league games by the end of June. Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Mendoza about Vientos. “He didn’t look good”. Maybe Mauricio time.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 Mike Rodriguez reports that the Mets are calling up infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse.Mark Vientos suffered a hamstring injury on Monday night that Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said “didn’t look good.” With reports that Mauricio is coming up, it would seem likely that Vientos could end up on the injured list. Mauricio is hitting .515/.564/.818 in nine games at Triple-A with three home runs, eight RBI, and a 5/5 K/BB ratio. He missed all of last season with a torn ACL and has not yet played back-to-back games in the minors, so it’s unlikely to has an everyday role right away. He had 23 home runs and 24 steals in 116 games at Triple-A in 2023 with a .292/.346/.506 slash line and has played both second base and third base at Triple-A. With Jared Young being the primary DH against righties and Brett Baty playing third base, it seems likely that Mauricio starts off in a short-side platoon. -- NBC SPORTS

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2025 Author Posted June 8, 2025 Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) struck out three batters and allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks over three innings Thursday for High-A Brooklyn in his second rehab start. Montas, who is working his way back from a high-grade lat strain, tossed 49 pitches (28 strikes) Thursday and is expected to require at least two more appearances in the minors before becoming an option for the New York rotation around the middle of June. The 32-year-old is scheduled to make his third minor-league appearance Tuesday, this time moving up to Triple-A Syracuse after his prior two outings came with Brooklyn. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/23/2025.Brooks Raley: Raley (elbow) recently resumed facing hitters in live batting practice, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Raley has missed the entirety of the 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace augmentation, which he underwent last May. The left-hander seems to be nearing the finish line in his rehab program and could be ready to pitch in minor-league rehab games by the end of the month. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/1/2025. Yacksel Rios: Injury Undisclosed. Est. Return 6/11/2025.Jose Siri: Siri (tibia) doesn't appear to be close to returning from the injured list, Tim Britton of the Athletic reports. The outfielder still hasn't worked up to 100 percent in his running progression, and until he does his return timeline will remain murky. Siri hasn't played since April 12 after fracturing his left tibia, but he did begin taking live batting practice last week. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 6/17/2025. Mark Vientos: Vientos was diagnosed with a low-grade strain in his right hamstring Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Now that the team has determined the severity of Vientos' injury, the plan is for him to rest and receive treatment for 10-14 days before returning to baseball activities. The 25-year-old had been splitting reps between third base and designated hitter before getting injured, and his absence has allowed the Mets to take a closer look at top prospect Ronny Mauricio. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 6/27/2025.Jett Williams: Williams avoided a concussion after being hit in the helmet by a pitch Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Williams was hit by a fastball that was traveling 98 mph. He will miss a few days but is expected to be back in Double-A Binghamton's lineup quickly. Injury Head. Day-to-day.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2025 Author Posted June 15, 2025 Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) struck out four while giving up two hits and one walk over 2.2 scoreless innings in a rehab start Tuesday with High-A Brooklyn. The veteran southpaw built up to 46 pitches (31 strikes) in his second start for Brooklyn, and he's put together a 6:1 K:BB through 4.1 innings to begin his rehab stint. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Manaea is set for at least three more rehab starts before the Mets will consider activating him from the 60-day injured list, a timeline which could have him joining the big-league rotation as soon as July 1. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/1/2025.Frankie Montas: Montas (lat) surrendered eight earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one batter over 1.2 innings in his rehab start Friday with Triple-A Syracuse. Montas made the fifth start of his rehab assignment but had his roughest showing yet. He needed 53 pitches just to record five outs and gave up five extra-base hits while also hitting a batter. After tossing 76 pitches in his previous rehab start with Syracuse last weekend, Montas is stretched out enough to be a viable rotation option for the Mets, but the ugly performance Friday means that he'll likely need at least one more outing in the minors to knock off some rust before he returns from the 60-day injured list. Paul Blackburn will get a start Wednesday in place of the injured Kodai Senga (hamstring), but a better performance from Montas his next time out could set him up to take over that rotation spot. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/23/2025. Luis Ortiz: Injury—elbow. Expected to be out until at least Sep 1.Brooks Raley: Raley may be ready to begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reported Friday. Raley is recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace augmentation he underwent last May and is almost healthy enough to see game action. Per Mastracco, Raley will likely require the full 30-day ramp-up period before being activated, which puts him on pace for a return near the All-Star break. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/18/2025. Yacksel Rios: Expected to be out until at least Jun 17.Kodai Senga: Senga was diagnosed Friday with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. Senga, who was placed on the injured list earlier Friday, will use the next two weeks to rest before being re-evaluated, at which point the Mets may begin to map out the next steps of his recovery. In the meantime, Paul Blackburn is expected to fill the gap in New York's starting rotation. Per Tim Britton of the Athletic, Senga isn't expected back until the second half of July, after the All-Star break. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 7/18/2025. Jose Siri: Siri suffered a setback in his recovery from a fractured tibia and has been shut down from all baseball activities, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Siri fractured his tibia April 12 versus the Athletics and still hasn't begun a rehab assignment after initially being given a recovery timeline of 8-to-12 weeks. The Mets may not see Siri again until after the All-Star break next month. Tyrone Taylor has been manning center field for New York since Siri's injury. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 7/18/2025. Mark Vientos: Vientos (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse early next week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Vientos landed on the injured list June 3 with a right hamstring strain, but he's been progressing quicker than initially expected and is now close to returning to a competitive setting. The Mets haven't specified how long they plan on keeping the 25-year-old infielder in the minors, though a return to Queens before the end of the month seems likely. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 6/23/2025. Jesse Winker: Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Friday that Winker (oblique) is multiple weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. Winker suffered a Grade 2 oblique strain against the Cardinals on May 4 and has done very little in terms of baseball activities since. Prior to being injured, Winker slashed .239/.321/.418 with one home run, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, one stolen base and a 9:20 BB:K across 78 plate appearances. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 6/24/2025.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2025 Posted June 17, 2025 As per the Syracuse Mets' Instagram page, Mark Vientos is expected to be in the lineup tonight. We're attending tomorrow's game and hope to see him then.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 22, 2025 Author Posted June 22, 2025 Max Kranick: MRI results revealed a minor flexor strain in Kranick's right elbow Saturday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Kranick's elbow forced him onto the injured list Thursday. Now that the Mets know the exact nature/severity of his injury, they expect the right-hander to be sidelined for another 3-4 weeks, putting his anticipated return date right around the All-Star break. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/18/2025.Sean Manaea: Manaea (oblique) struck out seven over 5.1 innings for Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, allowing one run on two hits without walking a batter. In his first rehab appearance for Syracuse, Manaea piggybacked starter Brandon Sproat and got stretched out to 62 pitches (45 strikes). The performance was a marked improvement on Manaea's first few rehab starts at High-A, as he gave up seven runs in 6.2 innings with an 8:3 K:BB for Brooklyn. The 33-year-old southpaw will likely need at least one more rehab outing to push his pitch count a little higher, but he appears on track to make his season debut with the Mets at the beginning of July. Injury Oblique. Est. Return 7/1/2025.Tylor Megill: The Mets placed Megill on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right elbow sprain. A sprained elbow indicates Megill is dealing with damage to his UCL, but the pitcher said Tuesday that he just has inflammation and no structural damage, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Megill will be shut down for at least 7-to-10 days before ramping back up. The Mets are due to get Frankie Montas (lat) and Sean Manaea (oblique) back soon, but they will need someone else to fill in for Megill later this week in Philadelphia. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/23/2025.Frankie Montas: The Mets are planning on having Montas (lat) make a start Tuesday against Atlanta, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. Montas struggled at the end of his rehab assignment, allowing 13 runs in 6.2 innings over his final two starts. His difficulties prompted the Mets to consider deploying him out of the bullpen, but they'll stick with the original plan to slot him into the No. 5 spot in the rotation. Still, Montas shouldn't have a long leash if his struggles persist. Injury Lat. Est. Return 6/23/2025.Brooks Raley: Raley (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Raley is ready to pitch in games again following Tommy John surgery with an internal brace augmentation he underwent last May. The southpaw's rehab assignment will likely last most, if not all, of the allotted 30 days, but Raley is on track to join the Mets bullpen sometime in July. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 7/8/2025.Mark Vientos: Vientos (hamstring) will continue his rehab assignment this weekend and could return as soon as Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Vientos started a rehab assignment Tuesday but has appeared in just one game, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. If all goes well this weekend, Vientos could be back for the start of a three-game set Monday against Atlanta. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 6/23/2025.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2025 Author Posted June 24, 2025 Jose Marte: Marte had right shoulder surgery last September and is uncertain to pitch at any point in 2025. The 28-year-old made 14 appearances for the Angels last season, holding a 2.33 ERA and 14:10 K:BB over 19.1 frames. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 6/28/2025.Oliver Ortega: Ortega is recovering from elbow surgery that sidelined him for the entire 2024 season. The right-hander last pitched in the big leagues in 2023, turning in a 4.30 ERA in 14.2 innings with Minnesota. njury Elbow. Est. Return 6/26/2025. Luis Ortiz: Ortiz will miss most, if not all, of the 2025 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He holds a career 4.76 ERA and 25:16 K:BB across 34 innings covering parts of five seasons at the big-league level. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/1/2025.Kodai Senga: Senga (hamstring) is scheduled to play catch off a mound Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. It's not a bullpen session, but Senga has done his best to keep his arm in shape as he recovers from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. Senga is slated to be re-evaluated Friday, but the expectation is that he won't be ready to rejoin the Mets' rotation until after the All-Star break. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 7/18/2025.Jose Siri: The Mets transferred Siri (tibia) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday. The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Travis Jankowski, but it doesn't alter Siri's timeline for a return since he has already been on the shelf for more than 60 days. He remains shut down from baseball activities after suffering a setback recently with his fractured left tibia. Injury Lower Leg. Est. Return 7/18/2025.Mark Vientos: Vientos (hamstring) will remain on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse through at least Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The Mets had left open the possibility of Vientos rejoining them for their four-game series against Atlanta that begins Monday, but it now appears likely that the earliest he will return is Friday in Pittsburgh for the start of a road trip. Vientos has missed most of June with a right hamstring strain and has gone 2-for-17 with a double and 3:0 K:BB in four rehab games with Syracuse. Injury Hamstring. Est. Return 6/27/2025.
