seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 PNC seems to get the "best park in the majors" tag, but I disagree.Views were obviously fantastic of downtown, but other than that, it seemed really cramped. Food options seemed kind of limited on the concourse - it was basically the same hot dog stand over and over, with a few specialty options sprinkled in. (The Pierogie Hoagie was THE REAL DEAL, though.)Friendly folks all around, though. Surprising number of jerseys and shirseys of guys you only kinda remember, too.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Those french-fry sandwiches from Primanti Brothers are way overrated. The one word that best describes them is "awful".

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2019 Posted August 6, 2019 STRONG DISAGREE MY FRIEND.PNC Park is a treasure. So, I concede that the food is bad, so you eat downtown before heading over. Lots of great pubs and restaurants to choose from. Then walk over the bridge and you're right there at the park. For me, every ballpark should be next to a bridge. Visit the statue of Honus Wagner before you walk in. A statue to commemorate their greats. What a novel concept. Once you get in, the sights are amazing. The bridges and downtown in the background...I recommend sitting on the third base line. Amazing views. There's a picnic area along the river where you can hang out pre-game. It's like being at a riverside park, except there is good beer and baseball. It's so funny, to me, this felt so spacious and nice. You can also go visit the bronze casting of Ralph Kiner's hands. This was a little weird, but if you're artsy, I guess that's a thing. As night falls, and the lights come on, you can see the skyline behind the RF fence. The Highmark building is pretty cool looking. Just an amazing place to take in a game. I recommend going to a game when deGrom is pitching and returning hero Neil Walker hits 2 HRs. https://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=8913This will make the experience very enjoyable. Then at night, you stumble back to your hotel room and walk over those bridges again. Breathtaking sights.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Going to two games Thursday and Friday. Packed our gloves and I don’t mean baseball gloves
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Going to two games Thursday and Friday. Cool.If you want some exercise walk some of the hills in Pittsburgh. Their steepness is legendary.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2025 Posted May 22, 2025 Haha. You mistake me for someone with stamina! We’re here; it’s still drizzling but we’re excited. Across from Park at Residence Inn. Skenes tomorrow night!
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 Last nights game was fun. Cold with a 2 hour rain delay in the middle of the sixth inning. Game resumed at 10:20 and then was over by 11. Luckily we were under an overhang and stayed dry. Saw quite a lot of Steelers gear actually since everyone was dressed for football weather. It was Sugardale Dollar Dog night!Glad to get a bargain there because two waters cost me over $12. During the rain delay they played the feed to their AAA game plus videos of fans dancing in the stands in the rain. Lots of us stayed. Pirates lost but showed more offense than they have in weeks. Brewers for some reason bunted four guys in a row in the seventh inning 🤔
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 Sounds like you had fun.Stay dry.Later
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 had fun...write more later. It was a good series and the Pirates are a very good team to watch. A few very good players that would be a good core to build a team around, if only. Lots of good things in Pittsburgh to do. Got home around 1:30 and raced into the house to watch today's game. They lost but hopefully we brought them some future luck.Relatives there that we also had fun with. Good food to be had.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2025 Posted May 25, 2025 I love that ballpark! Headed there late June to see the Mets!

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 26, 2025 Posted May 26, 2025 Well, maybe not the time of my life, but we really needed a break, and it fit the bill! The rain delay was actually pretty pleasant all in all. I wandered around the concourse a bit and passed the time doing Connections and Strands, haha.We did the Heinz Museum and Duquesne Incline and ate at a great restaurant at the top, The Grandview Saloon, which I highly recommend. We had great pulled pork.We had pizza and beer (one slice each, one beer each) Friday night at PNC which cost $50+. A little sticker shock there. Still can't believe $12+ for two waters!Anyway, yes we had a blast and can't wait for next time. I would like to visit the Westinghouse Atom Smasher. Thought of the too late this time out.Marshy, have a good time! Park is debit/credit only btw.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 I love that ballpark! Headed there late June to see the Mets! Friday night is Drone show night (looks pretty cool!) and Saturday is Pirate Parrot shirt giveaway!

whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 She'll love it. We stayed at the Residence Inn across the street. Just a short walk!
