I really thought it was a solid pickup. Had the big first two games, looking like he'd finally turned the corner. Oh well.

Ultimately, he'd lost any semblance of regular playing time between Soto, Ewing, and Benge, so it kind of is what it is. Welcome back, Nick Morabito.

I remember he was underwhelming from start to finish. He had a certain flair about him like Starling Marte, however. We gave up top prospect Luisangel Acuna for him and his .223/.303/.399 line and 10 home runs in 193 at-bats. Which actually is a pretty solid HR rate, at least.

The surprise wasn't that he was put on waivers- lots of players get put on waivers this time of year.  Yeah, the surprise was that he was picked up.

 

So Nick Morabito is eligible for post-season play.  Good for him./s

Early on he laid out in CF and made a great catch in center. I believe this was the play that reinjured his back

There had been reports of the Mets coveting Robert for a long time before they got him. I never understood it. I'm not sorry that he's gone. I don't know what Luisangel Acuna has been doing. I don't know that we'll really regret losing him, but I suppose it's possible. The trade with the White Sox will never be regarded as a good one. Time will tell whether or not we look back at it as a bad one.

People getting put on waivers in August is certainly not as common now that waivers can no longer be revocable.

As for general memories, the guy was/is a specimen.  Like Starling Marte before him, he was/is built like he's made of stone, top to bottom, and had the speed to match.  Like Starling Marte before him, he didn't have enough health and baseball left in his body.  The desire was mostly there.

My most specific memories are a pair of throws he made about 10 days ago that were just not something you ever want to see on a big-league field.  Turrible.

Reached base three times on Opening Day, and won the game with a three-run homer in the eleventh in Game Two.  David Stearns must've briefly felt supergeniusy.

It was kind of odd for them to deal away Adley Rutschman at the trade deadline then pick up Robert for $5 mil for less than four weeks (plus playoffs?).  It could work out for them as LR Jr is as good now as he's been all year (and maybe in a couple of years) so, like the Mets, the O's are taking a shot that he'll be an occasional difference maker in a handful of crucial games. Their bet on him is just a whole lot shorter than the one the Mets did. 

 

and, btw, Luisangel = .237/.268/.273 in over 200 PAs which is ... not good.

I mean the .237 is low enough. But to have the OBA just 31 points above the BA means he's walking at less than half the rate of ML average (65 to 70 is around avg) and to slug just 36 points above the BA is to not slug at all. He has 46 hits this year and 41 of them are singles. And then there's the 40 K vs 8 BBs

The good news is that he's only 24. The bad is that hitting like that might not allow him to stay in baseball much longer if it doesn't pick up.

Luis Robert hits the 10-Day IL, as every day is precious, with "left hamstring discomfort."

Amazing that he does this on the Orioles payroll, as the team faithful still don't know why they aren't paying Adley Rutschman.

My new theory is that this was some sort of backroom moneylaundering scheme between the Mets and Orioles.
