Luis Robert — tough guy to find the right deal for and they would have had eat some money, but one would have thought some hopeful team would want an everyday centerfielder even with a question mark on his bat.  The Mets went for Cedric Mullins last year.  Is it too much to think some other team is as naïve as the 2025 Mets?

Bo Bichette — it barely feels like he's been here for long stretches this season, but he's still here.  Yeah, his opt-out seemingly makes him effectively a player in his walk year, but any team taking him on might end up holding a pretty heavy bag if he doesn't opt out.

Francisco Alvarez — there was a market for Adley Rutschman, so there probably was for him, but he's always got that mystery over whether he's hurt, and his lack of productivity with runners on base would make me shy.

Luis Torrens — I can't imagine teams weren't after him, but the Mets held.

Devin Williams — signed through 2028, and has a Bobby Bonilla thingy in his contract where he gets big ol' deferred payments until 2045.

Francisco Lindor — did anybody think there were really talks about him?  He's signed through 2031, and depending on his angle of decline going forward, the money isn't that bad, but that's a lot to take on by a team just trying to navigate the next 2+ months.

Kodai Senga — mmmm ... that would have been a lot of salary they would have been asked to eat.  For that money, they might as well keep him home and keep trying to get him right.

Couple of thoughts:

1. Reportedly there was interest in Torrens, which makes sense to me (outstanding defense, team control for 2 additional seasons).

2. Senga’s contract isn’t really an albatross.  $14M next year and then he’s a free agent.  He does have no-trade rights to block deals to 10 teams. Made sense to keep him since any return would be selling at the lowest value, and maybe with different coaching the Mets can get him right.

3. Manaea is the pitcher who I thought the Mets might be able to move if they ate  money ($25M next year) given his more promising results of late.

I would try Senga as a single-inning reliever the rest of the season.  Go back to his best two pitches and let him air it out for one inning.

If he's good, then maybe we can get some value out of that salary.

Sometimes I watch Hiro. And I wonder if he thinks to himself:  “wtf dude. Can you just say something normal?”

Brett Baty, who I swore was headed to Miami for Cade Gibson and Braxton Garrett, is still here.
