Clean-up in Aisle 13

Shortly after the start of the game Gary mentioned that, now that Eric Wagaman joined the fray, the Mets have now used 13 different clean-up hitters in 84 games this season. Do you want to know who the others were? Well I'm telling you anyway whether you want it or not.

Mark Vientos (x 25); Jared Young (20); Luis Robert Jr. (10); Jorge Polanco (6); Bo Bichette (6); Brett Baty (5); Marcus Semien (3); Francisco Lindor (3); Francisco Alvarez (2); plus AJ Ewing, ML Melendez, Austin Slater, and Eric Wagaman once each.

When you have that many cleanup hitters it means you don’t have one.

And, oddly, one of the few who hasn't hit in the #4 slot is the team's leading HR hitter.

I think we need to bring back the traditional lineup construction that would put Soto at #4. He should  be our RBI guy.

I think in a more traditional arrangement, Soto would be third.

Those names in the first post tell you how thin this lineup was from day 1. 
 

A poorly constructed roster and a front office that manages to get the least out of whatever talent they have is what’s led to this mess.
