The best way to get an early entry into the HoF is to die — which quickly disqualifies you from living a long life to enjoy it — or to suffer a catastrophic injury mid-career that forces you into retiring early, while somehow racking up enough productivity in your abbreviated career to not only get in, but get in quickly.

The only one who seemingly had a chance at enjoying Koufax' extended living legend status would seemingly be Kirby Puckett, and that sadly did not work out.

So it's back to Toronto where Kevin Gausman goes for the ultimate win, Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the save ... and, I dunno, maybe Paul Lynde for the block.

And if you get that last reference you're old enough to be about a quarter to dead

The surprise is that George Springer is back in the lineup for the Jays, which I never thought would happen.

So if he re-inures himself he's got six months to heal .. so why not.

Well they may break through ... but it's not going to be against Yamamoto as the Dodgers pull Y.Y. after six innings/96 pitches.

Trusting three innings to the pen, eh, Dave Roberts?!?

Play is right in front of him. Hernandez running full momentum toward 2B. Springer and Vlad due up.

Just awful baserunning.

Ohtani vs Scherzer for game 7.

Buckle up. This is gonna' be a bumpy ride.

I thought the call to rule Barger's drive a ground rule double was rather suspect and definitely cost the Blue Jays. Of course, I'm not privy to the ground rules that they cover prior to the games for quirks at each stadium. The ball did lodge at the base of the wall, but it wasn't like it was stuck and could not be easily picked up and played.

Barger's base running gaffe on the ensuing line out by Gimenez was absolutely horrible. That would have been bad base running at the Little League level, unforgivable for a professional player.

Dodgers walk Guerrero Jr. to bring up Bichette. Bo knows hitting. He absolutely crushed a 3 run homer to Dead CF!

3-0 Toronto. Ohtani is done after 2 and a third innings.

Those extended warmup times granted to Ohtani (Twice!) didn't seem to help him much.

He wound up the night retiring only half of the batters he faced.

Scherzer was not fooling the Dodger hitters in the 4th, but the Blue Jays flash the leather. Back to back diving catches to get him out of a bases loaded jam with only one run scoring.

I would have someone (Bieber?) getting warm in the pen, just in case Scherzer doesn't have it to open the 5th.

Meanwhile, how about some insurance runs from the Blue Jays.

I can say with confidence that if I had ever been blessed with the talent to be a major league reliever, that I'd be rocking the mullet/mustache combo. That shit just looks right out there.

Justin is a native Canadian so he would be a logical choice.

Early in his career, I kind of had Vladdy Jr pegged as a bit of baseball's version of a nepo-baby: fence-swinging, not well-rounded, not in great shape, and maybe thinking a good career (and a ton of money) was owed to him as a result of him being a legacy player. But he's impressed me over the last month, not just with his hitting but also with all around play and his spirit on the field and in the dugout. In short, he's been fun to watch*.

So now my thinking has changed to, while there may be players who enjoy being a pro baseball player as much as Vladdy does, I'n not sure anyone enjoys it more.

* OK, especially while fucking the Yanx, but elsewhere as well

I have really been impressed by his overall game. His defense has been stellar. His diving catch of the Tommy Edmonds line drive was a great play. Started a nice DP last inning, as well.
