2025 TABLOID COVER DERBY: YEAR ELEVEN

The first round of the eleventh annual Tabloid Cover Derby will open on Saturday, November 1.



We currently have 266 covers in the competition: 100 from Newsday, 81 from the Daily News, and 85 from the New York Post. These numbers are expected to climb a bit, with the inclusion of any offseason covers that may accumulate before the final poll of the first round is posted.



There will be at least 27 polls in the first round.



Last year, there were 256 covers and 26 first-round polls. (87 from the Daily News, 74 from the Post, and 95 from Newsday.) The main reason that there are more covers this year than in 2024, a year when the Mets generated a lot of October covers, is that this year was heavily front-loaded with a lot of Juan Soto covers.



As always, the winning cover will be displayed proudly in the lobby of the CPF's international headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden.

In a way that mirrors spring training/actual baseball, I like that the TCD also takes time to get going before it gets good.



We count down to it, but then it starts with underwhelming offseason covers.



It's like waiting for pitchers and catchers to report. Then all you get are some videos of guys throwing.

We're only in the second week, and participation is already tailing off noticeably. There are rumblings from Stockholm that the Tabloid Cover Derby may suffer the same fate as the Schaefer awards.

I'm sorry everybody, but I've decided to pull the plug on this. The 2025 Tabloid Cover Derby has been canceled, and it won't be returning in 2026. Too few people are bothering to vote and continuing this thing really isn't worth my time.
