This feels exactly like the last week of 2008. Same opponents, same results.

vs Cubs: Win Tuesday, Lose Wednesday, Win Thursday.

vs Marlins: Lose (?) Friday…

It might just be the frustration speaking. But I'm thinking I won't miss this 2025 team at all.

Just a miserable year.

Some good pieces here for sure. But I don't know how you fix the cloud that is sitting over this team.

My feeling was the Mets could afford themselves one loss, in all likelihood. Have to win the next two and hope for the best.

It's just. We have no pitchers for the next two games.

Only if you assume that the given outcome of any game is a 50-50 coin flip (which it is not).

Sure. But trying to assign some kind of other ratio to each game is akin to entering into a subjective guess-a-thon.

Do you want to factor in season record (advantage Mets) or recent record (advantage Marlins)? Home field (advantage Marlins),

starting pitcher (advantage definitely not Mets), defense (advantage Marlins), or overall offense (advantage Mets)?

The point is that by trying to factor in how each game is NOT a 50/50 proposition not only makes the math ridiculously complicated but also brings so

many factors (and opinions) into consideration that you wind up barely tweaking the odds at the margins (and maybe not even correctly) to the

point where the revised projection probably never strays far from where the generic projection (in this case 19%) was in the first place.

It's a broad estimate, not a statement of fact.

Mauricio looking like a guy who has not played in weeks. So there's that.

How Stearns has handled Mauricio this year is one (just one) of the issues of '25. Mauricio didn't play in '24 and missed all of ST. He played 19 games in the minors and was called up in June. If a player is a top prospect and misses that much time, he should be playing every day, but as we know, he has played very little for a long time. The theory is that they are preserving a minor league option for '26, but really, who cares when you have to win now? He should have been getting "reps" at Syracuse instead of not playing. We see that he can't bat righty, even though he is a switch hitter, so again, why wasn't he playing every day in Syracuse? Instead, he sat on the bench, and his lack of playing time might have contributed to his brain fart (baseball lingo) on Friday, as covering the bag should have been instinctual. BTW, that was a position on the roster that could have been given to Iglesias--he would have covered third.
