Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 22 pitches for Edwin. So, if we don't beat Duran here…Diaz for the tenth?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 (edited) Marte, Alonso, and [CROSSOUT]Nimmo[/CROSSOUT] Baty have been sent by their government to pummel Jhoan Duran. Edited August 26, 2025 by Guest
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 That was "great" Diaz. Let's land a gut punch of our own by walking this one off.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 NOW I might bunt.Boy, THAT would be a gutsy call!!
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 The Mets just delivered a nut punch to the Phillies.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Running that fast with a barrel of Gatorade is, like, one of the events of the World's Strongest Man competition.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Did it without the homer again. In fact, they only got one extra-base hit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Imma guess they activate Megill for tomorrow.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Marsh, by the way, should have [CROSSOUT]dove[/CROSSOUT] [CROSSOUT]dived[/CROSSOUT] diven.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 Is he playing hurt? They don't seem to want to use him at center, and he really isn't showing his characteristic abandon over there in left.

And I don't think he was anywhere near close enough to Nimmo's.Marsh always seemed like an odd duck to me ... and not just for his Duck Dynasty haircut. (does he walk around with wet hair at home too?)He was a good-field/low-hit guy in Anaheim. The Phils got him and he stabilized CF for them while, simultaneously, becoming a much better hitter. But not only has his offense slipped in each of the last two seasons (his best year was '23) so has his 'D' according to everything I've heard; it's why they went out and got Bader. Now he's a much better than average in LF but his [97 OPS+] bat works even less over there than in CF. And while it seems like he's a guy currently in the midst of a late career decline, he's still just 27 y/o!!It's like he's gone from the career ascension phase to the declining one in under five years.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 26, 2025 Posted August 26, 2025 I don't think it's the game if he comes up short on Baty's parachute thingy. Certainly not necessarily. Marte has to hold at half-way to stay safe, and the ball shouldn't get too far away at all dropping in as softly as it did.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 What a great ending. I can't recall ever seeing a team win a game by hitting four straight singles to plate one run in the bottom of the 9th.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 I just watched the Phillies TV crew call that ending mentioned above, it was great
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Here's wishing for a Tuesday Night Mets Club report.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Maybe next time they should rethink welcoming Harrison Bader back the way Ryan Helsley did.Later

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Mendy postgame comments suggest Helsley is still tipping pitches. Maybe. But also, you have to throw the slider for a strike, and you have to locate that fastball better.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Was Helsley this bad during his last few weeks with St. Louis? Or did he suddenly fall apart after joining the Mets?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Helsley had https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=helslry01&t=p&year=2025given up but one run in his previous 11 appearances (each one inning) as a Cardinal. But before that, he had a strange run where he gave up exactly one run in four straight games.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 Possibly tipping pitches would explain much of it. I believe he is having trouble "making pitches" He can be used in low leverage spots for the time being as the bullpen is flush
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2025 Posted August 27, 2025 He's going to have to move Stanek out of that lowest leverage appearance spot in the bullpen.Later
