Mets are (once again) on the wrong side of the free pass ledger tonight: 7 BBs + 3 HBPs vs one walk

So only a 10/1 ratio

That really is the name of the game. These Reds look like a sharp, tight, clean, and patient team to me, and a good bet to improve in the second half.

This entire game turned on one decision to take out a pitcher after 69 pitches. Maybe Mendoza can learn something from it

The tying run is now in the on-deck circle.

... and now it's at the plate!!

But it's Lindor ... and he never hits grand slams in meaningful situations.

I tend to think relief decisions are bound by policies put in place long before gametime. Whether that means the manager is tying is own hands or higher management is, it is hard to say. Probably more the latter.

But some days — quite a few of them, in fact — responding explicitly to the game situation with your pitching changes doesn't seem to be a luxury that the manager allows himself.

It is frustrating as hell, and does not make for better baseball. I know they have their reasons and are trying to be responsible stewards of arms, but the results do not suggest to me that they are succeeding in that department, so yeah, I would encourage managers to manage to win the day, for our tomorrows run thin.

How do youse know that Manaea was handled terribly? Maybe if Manaea pitched another half inning, he would have sustained an injury that would've set him back two months. For every single thing youse think youse know, management knows 500 more things that youse don't know. Let's also blame Mendoza for putting Lindor in tonight's starting lineup while we're at it. Lindor went oh for five and barely hit the ball out of the infield all game long. Mendoza shoulda known how useless Lindor was gonna be tonight.

With all starters available. Why go to the four inning guy to kick things off? Why not wait until you have Butto back?

Butto pitched one inning for Syracuse last night in his first rehab (from whatever) start.

He have up 2 hits, no runs, and struck out one.

Mendoza went with Carillo last night because he didn't have someone like Jacob deGrom to go to instead. Or someone like peak Rube Waddell. He did have a different Waddell. Blame that on Mendoza, too.
