The Dodgers are one game better than the Mets today

Kershaw debuted a few days ago and got beat up pretty bad. On MLB TV the Dodgers crew was used. The painted Kershaw's return as the second and it was fun to hear them become deflated

I'm sure Apple TV will be fawning over Ohtani all night so in that respect I don't mind missing it

Time for some Psy-ops.

Make Kershaw think this is an NLCS playoff game and he'll be a bowl of jelly.

Dodgers have their own problems and are just 1.0 game ahead of the Mets even at the end of the Mets worst one/two weeks of the season

Dodgers are 10-9 in May and earlier this week got swept by the crosstown (if you can call a two hour drive 'cross-town') Angels.

Mets just had their season's first three-game losing streak while the Dodgers have had two 3-game L streaks plus one 4-gamer.

Our hitting sucks right now but their pitching is a mess and there are only so many times you can 'bullpen' your way through games.

I was thinking about signing up for a 'trial run' of APPLE+ TV (and then canceling tomorrow) but when I opened their app it remembered

me from when I pulled the same thing last year so it won't let me do it again. I was hoping the statute of limitations had run out, but

apparently not. So it's a radio night for me.

Starling Marte has a .667 OPS over his last three years. 804 PA. He hasn't been good since 2022, and is 36 years old. He really shouldn't be playing regularly, and he certainly shouldn't be hitting 5th.

Mets: You're right CF! He has no business batting 5th! We'll bat him 2nd!

Updated Lineup

1. Lindor SS

2. Marte DH

3. Soto RF

4. Alonso 1B

5. Nimmo LF

6. Taylor CF

7. Alvarez C

8. Baty 3B

9. Acuna 2B

I've heard slumps are infectious.

Because it's on Apple TV it's a radio night for me as well. Still amazed they offer local radio pbp for either team as an option.

Soto and Taylor (lightly) collided, and the ball hit Soto's glove before Taylor caught it barehanded in the outfield.

Conforto tagged up after first touch by Soto but before the catch was secured. Mets threw to second to double-up Conforto (who ran to third) and Conforto was called safe. Mets challenge and unps say it's proper to tag up on first touch.

Re: Vientos, I have only 'heard/saw' that he was scratched

for abdominal issues. Don't know if that's a muscular thing

or he ate some bad chicken salad for lunch this afternoon.

I imagine it is some sort of regional accent/drawl, but on that challenged call, the umpie sounded kind of drunkie.

I didn't see the play, but Howie had it right from the beginning. A runner can tag the moment the ball hits a glove, not necessarily when it's caught, so Conforto took advantage of the extra second, as did Ohtani, to get a good jump. Otherwise an OF could bop the ball up in the air while moving towards the IF and the runner would have to hold until he actually gloved it.

Howie also seemed to think that Lindor had a possible tag play on Ohtani headed for 2nd but seemed to assume that Conforto was going to be called out for leaving early upon appeal and didn't really pursue it. Sounded more like speculation than fact.

Then, just after all of that, the booth talked about how it had restarted to rain but said how it was just going to be spotty rain off and on all night but it should be enough to stop the game. Seconds later they said, "it's pouring". And those were the last words I've heard.

Not sure what Lindor was thinking but it is accurate that if he was playing it aggressively he would have had a shot at tagging Ohtani out, and that he wasn't paying attention to Ohtani.

Mets get a surprise run!

Wayne Randazzo noted that Muncy had no argument when it was called. Not entirely clear if it was just careless wandering in front of Marte at the wrong time or getting caught trying to gain an advantage…but it was an immediate and definitive call from the ump.

The running boxscore lists Muncy as having an error in the game for throwing. Does he not get an error on the interference call? Or is that the "throwing" error actually referring to that?

Someone tell homeplate blue that the Dodgers don't need extra calls five inches off the plate. My god.
