Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 The three-year New York Met reliever returns to the Red Sox — the team he was with immediately before the Mets — on a minor-league deal.Boston, he remembers, had the tastiest jerseys.[fimg=600]https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2024%2F05%2FAdam-Ottavino.jpg%3Fresize%3D87&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=261cd6b0612a936f214c9ce89c71559eb1d154e594b93c4c5c977eba73c994ac&ipo=images[/fimg]

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 Whenever I'd hear his name, I'd think I was hearing "Onomatopoeia"I see he didn't get into any postseason games in 2024. Was he dropped from the roster? I don't recall.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 78th Precinct Youth Sports League product, like Lunchpail and Sharpie Jr.His inability to hold runners on made every mistake hurt that much more, and after a while it seemed it was difficult to count on consecutive good outings from him. I don't recall if he made it to the postseason.Thoughtful guy in interviews, never mailed it in. I'm sure the Puma will miss him.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 19, 2025 Author Posted February 19, 2025 Was fully aware of his crappy job holding on runners, and owned it, announcing each spring of having dedicated his offseason to a program to improve in that department. But some of us struggle to do two things at the same time, sucking at keeping two important thoughts in our heads at once. What's that, Honey? Yeah, I'll get the lunch dishes in a minute! What?! I'm writing a post! I said I'd do it and I'll DO it!!Fuck it, I forgot what I was gonna write.

He was quite good in 2022, good in 2023, and very inconsistent in 2024. I don't know, he seemed to have lost confidence (at least to me) so maybe a change of venue can do him some good. His k's/9 and K/BB were still quite good last year, but the ERA and reliability were lacking.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 He was also 38 years old last year, so that may have something to do with it as well.https://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240921_NYP_02.jpg> https://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240921_NYDN_02.jpg>

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Recorded the postseason-clinching berth out in 2022. It will surprise nobody that it wasn't via pickoff.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 I liked him a lot his first year, liked him a fair amount his second year, wanted him gone by his third year. The 2020s version of Dennis Cook.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2025 Posted March 10, 2025 Sucked a lot more in 2024 than the previous years. It was a foregone conclusion that if he played in the majors in 2025 it'd be for some other team, so, good luck to the guy.
