Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Out for a “significant stretch”. Per Mike Puma. More details to follow.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Dylan Cease, please!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Well, that didn't take long.I suspect he wouldn't have been that much better than Tylor Megill, who'll likely replace him in the rotation. It does put the first dent in the pitching depth, though. So that sucks.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 He can't throw for 6 to 8 weeks and then can start a ST program.Quintana is available and likely inexpensive.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 High-grade lat strain, PRP injection.

Or, since they had been lined up to open the season with a six-man rotation, they may well opt not to replace him in the rotation — at least initially — but to instead add a reliever.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 That's really gotta suck for the player coming to a new team , hopefully he's fit soon enough
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Author Posted February 17, 2025 Let Butto start.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 You could get Jose Quintana right now for less than a Kamala Harris tee shirt I reckon
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 This might win the Mets three or four more games.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Not sure why they signed Montas in the first place; he's not that good.I'd love Cease, but I think SD's asking price just went up a tick. I wouldn't be against a Quintana reunion.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 I thought the Montas signing was fraught with riskI'd like to see Quintana back but I don't see that happening You don't want to become close to relying on Blackburn or Canning for all that much

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 For whatever it's worth, and it probably isn't much, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com is reporting that an unnamed source says there's mutual interest between the Mets and Quintana.I hope it's true, but I'll have more confidence when I hear it from someone who's not a suspected AI bot.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 Saw the same report on Metsmerized.com.Then I noticed they were quoting the same SI source.Waiting for corroboration.Later
Metsfan69 Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 I say we bring Quintana back. He'll come cheap and except for that injury in his first year, he pitched pretty well for us. I just don't see Holmes as a starter.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Q is certainly an option. And welcome.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 DiComo says it's not happening https://www.mlb.com/news/mets-pitching-plan-after-frankie-montas-injuryhttps://www.mlb.com/news/mets-pitching-plan-after-frankie-montas-injury
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 An analytics view of why they're not pursuing Quintana. While Quintana's 3.18 second-half ERA was solid, he might have gotten a bit lucky, as evidenced by his 3.89 FIP and his .269 BAbip. While Quintana undoubtedly pitched well, the batted ball luck skewed in his favor making him a possible regression candidate.Overall, Quintana had a very solid 3.75 ERA in 31 starts and 170.1 innings of work, but he had a 4.56 FIP and a 4.52 xERA. Again, he was good, but might have been a bit lucky too. It's really hard to bet on luck. https://fansided.com/mets-passing-obvious-starting-pitcher-because-metric-nitpick/partners/36534?fbclid=IwY2xjawIl_Z1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHd-jnlNwGqEWkEwe3Bp2B7DjAPWqg47t_ZRJfdozHHpLMQcrLkoMZ5woDA_aem_q0CQGmGG0zxgf0VZavklgAhttps://fansided.com/mets-passing-obvious-starting-pitcher-because-metric-nitpick/partners/36534?fbclid=IwY2xjawIl_Z1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHd-jnlNwGqEWkEwe3Bp2B7DjAPWqg47t_ZRJfdozHHpLMQcrLkoMZ5woDA_aem_q0CQGmGG0zxgf0VZavklgALater
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 Going with Megill, Blackburn or Canning? Now THAT's betting on luck. This team will hit, but the pitching is going to be ugly.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 Yeah, I am not so sure why folks are down on the pitching staff either.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 It may not be as good as we'd like, but I don't think it will be bad.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 It probably won't be as good as we'd like. That is certainly the way of things.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 They might lose on style points (it may at times be ugly) but this isn't Olympic figure skating. It will be fine as long as they give up one run less than the other team.I see a lot of 5-4 and 6-5 type games in our future.Later
