If I understand this correctly, this means that the Mets are responsible to pay the players/coaches/training staff, while DBH handles the entertainment side (tickets, marketing, venue, etc)



Then the revenue split must be addressed through the affiliation contract.



So is this done just because big market clubs don't want the hassle of managing the minor league teams?

They aren't buying teams, they're buying venues.

A definite cost saving move for the major league teams - consolidating some administrative functions while maintaining the control of the baseball stuff. But i hope the centralization of the ticketing doesn't become a fiasco like Ticketmaster.

Minor leaguers are covered under the CBA, But if they strike, are they striking against MLB/ owners or this company?

When the Mets bought the Syracuse Chiefs, I was glad because I thought it meant that they'd have a permanent Triple-A home, after the bouncing around that they did after they lost Norfolk. Buffalo, New Orleans, Las Vegas... (All NFL cities, by the way. Huh.) I don't know the details of this new arrangement, but I hope it doesn't mean that the Mets can get bounced from Syracuse in favor of another MLB franchise. I was okay when the Mets were in Buffalo, but Las Vegas was too far away and made call-ups a bit more complicated.

ML clubs sign affiliation deals at each minor league level in two year chunks or in multiples of two. So without any owned franchises going forward it's possible that

a NYM affiliation ends if and when either side sees a situation they like better. Not sure where we currently are in that cycle but the new Syracuse owners would

inherit the current agreement.

The problem with that old AAA situation is that there was one more AAA city in the west than there was a ML city so some eastern team was always losing out in the

affiliate game of musical chairs. For a while it was the Mets once the long stable relationship with Norfolk ended.

Yeah, I didn't think that was allowed.

There have long been individuals/groups owning multiple teams but I always thought it all had to be in different leagues.

Now there are different leagues/divisions within the AAA level but I don't think there are 13 of them.

The Mets signed like a 25 year ish deal when they agreed to make Syracuse their AAA affiliate. I am pretty sure that is unaffected by this recent maneuver.



I don't know that it will change things much. We attend a dozen or so games per year, and always have, though the games are more fun now that they are Mets games, compared to years of Chiefs/SkyChiefs games as affiliates of Toronto, Washington and probably some other teams I've forgotten.



My biggest fear is that they'll rename the team to something stupid like the Rumble Ponies (owned by DBH). I think you'd have to be pretty stupid to move away from the current name, as there's nothing bigger in all of baseball right now than the New York Fuckin A Mets

These are not inconsiderable assets. It may not be related that the sale is coming concurrently with baseball's biggest-ever contract, but it sure is interesting.
