A (non) pitchers duel is erupting in LA.

Dylan Cease (SDP): 5 ER in 3 1 IP

Yamamoto: 5 ER in 3 0 IP

And, yes, Ohtani has a 3R HR

SD, who went 8-5 v the Dodgers in ths regular season, -5 Dodgers in the 7th

Padres hammer LA , Dodgers fans are awful ,throwing stuff at the Padre outfielders, these teams really don't like each other

This makes sense to me too. Regardless of who we face Sunday I'd like them to have to play one more time and spend their best starters/relievers to get there.

Kike Hernandez HRs of Darvish in bottom 2 for a 1-0 LAD lead. Yamamoto is on the hill for the Dodgers.

IMO the Pads are the better team right now so I'm pulling for LA. Despite the billion or so dollars they spent for various superstars, the Dodgers still wound up with half a lineup and half a rotation.

Yeah, but lack of pitching depth traditionally can be papered over in the post-season.

I'm curious if the return of Kodai Senga is taken as a challenge by Ohtani to get back on the mound. I imagine not — I doubt the Dodgers are going to go there — but it'd be interesting if he tries to make the case.

I'm with you. I fear the Padres. Not so much the Dodgers.

Sometimes.

They used eight pitchers to toss a shutout in Game 4 and are shutting out the Pads thru 7 tonight.

On the other hand, they gave up 5, 10, and 6 in the first three games so that mixing and matching thing works ... except when it doesn't.

They were 2-4 vs. the Dodgers this season, and 5-1 vs. the Padres.

It is, of course, a small sample size, and may be more about when they caught the two teams. The locked up with the Dodgers at a pretty low point in late May.

Pirate pitcher Bob Veale, talking about the 1960 World Series, in which the MFYs set offense records but Pittsburgh won, said it best, "Good pitching stops good hitting. And vice Versa".
