G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Gary Cohen joins several also excellent broadcasters (plus John Sterling) on this year's Ford C. Frick Award ballot.https://baseballhall.org/frickaward2025https://baseballhall.org/frickaward2025
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Look't Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper up against each other head-to-head.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 There are a lot good candidates to be runners-up to Gary… except for Skip Carey who might have been the worst announcer in history. He's the worst Carey (other than Harry) and that's saying a lot. He's the worst Braves announcer in the last 20 years and that's saying a lot.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Skip Caray and Sterling are clowns and unworthy of being considered.Hard to handicap the rest of the field. I have liked Dave Sims quite a bit as well when I've heard his work.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2024 Posted October 1, 2024 Bob Prince sucked tooGo Gary!
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Gary sounds like Kermit the Frog.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 And you sound like a broken record

DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 It's a good and deep field. I lived in the Bay Area for 15 years and Kuiper and Krukow are fantastic--like GKR level good. Is there a limit on how many can get the award in a given year (I have no idea if it's one only), that may work to Gary's favor. I cant see one getting it and not the other, and they kinda sorta cancel each other out in a "split ticket" type of scenario. Dave Sims is phenomenal and I suspect he will get in this year or soon thereafter, same with Gary.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 Nine of them have the added bonus of not being John Sterling. It's a fraternity, though, and we probably have to be prepared for the notion that Sterling gets the nod just based on seniority. The J. Taylor Spink Award (which I don't think is called that anymore) has gone to both Bill Madden and Bill Conlin, who both kind of j. taylor stink.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2024 Posted October 3, 2024 And in the same vein, Ken Harrelson got the Frick award recently.
